Wake Football Summer Thread

Sorry I meant when Mac was a senior, Cory played like 2 series a game. When Cory was starter as a Junior, Mauk had scheduled drives.

We should start scheduling easy wins - teams like LA Monroe and Utah State ...

Wake Rivals tweeted a current depth chart. Some changes that I will have to make to what I projected in my post in the OP in this thread:

Wendell Dunn is starting at DE (I had projected Chris Stewart)

Chris Calhoun is the second team DE (I had projected Rashawn Shaw)

Zeek Rodney is that starter over Tylor Harris (likely related to Harris missing time)

Josh Okonye is on the chart as a 2nd team safety (it seems like he always shows up on depth charts as a safety, but then lines up at corner)

Amari Henderson is 2nd team CB

Another surprise: they have Alex Bachman running even with Tyree Harris as the backup to K.J. Brent

I interpret this depth chart to say that both Bachman and Henderson will play as true freshmen.

Do you think we will save Banks and Harris for Syracuse and not play them against Elon? And...what's the word on Ejiofor? I know he has recently been struggling with concussion-like symptoms. Thanks.

Bunch of Frosh. Surprised by the potential usage of Bachman as a freshman.

I haven't actually seen Bachman in person so I can't comment on how he is practicing or anything like that but I do remember his film being pretty surprising because nobody knew much about him but he really impressed at the Wake camp - ran great routes and had really good hands.

Clawson said at the Coaches Luncheon yesterday that Duke had a concussion and that they don't mess around with those things. It is possible that he won't be back this year at all. They are just going to have to wait it out and see if he improves.

I'm assuming we won't need Banks and Harris for Elon.
If that's the case, I would have them sit so they can be fully healed and ready to go when we really need them.
Also gives the other guys some good playing experience.

This would be a big loss. I saw a quote from one of the assistant coaches saying Ejiofor is the best pass rusher on the defensive line. The defensive ends generated very little pass rush last year. That really needs to improve.

Looks like the official depth chart was updated again as of today, though I can't see that many (or any?) changes were made from the previous release? Does anybody have a good sense for what's going to happen at RB? Looks like they're still showing it as wide-open between 5 guys. Do we actually expect that all 5 guys will get some time until someone(s) establishes himself as the clear leader? Also, I realize it says OR in between all of them, but is there anything to be made of the fact that Tyler Bell is the first one listed? Kind of surprised if he goes first team (and I think I read somewhere he did play with the 1s in a scrimmage), given he was relatively unheralded compared to some of the other guys in his same class (e.g., Reid, Colburn).

Clawson feels that he will rotate three guys at RB every game and said those three can change week by week.
Dionte Austin jumped Amari Henderson. Chris Stewart was promoted to starter while Duke fell off the depth chart.

Thanks. Will be interesting to see who can separate himself from the pack, but would be nice if we have that many guys rotating in and out who can actually compete. O-line will be the question I guess. Assuming that Ejiofor falling off the depth chart is related to his recent injury.

I think the players are listed in the order that they stand right now. Tyler Bell is the closest thing to a #1. I would have expected that he would see more carries than any of the others against Elon before his ankle injury. Now that probably depends on how he has healed. I think Isaiah Robinson is right behind him. 3-4 guys at a minimum will get carries on Thursday.
