Missouri Football Players Strike

“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

― Malcolm X

There is no doubt. What is the common thing among histories dictators, they controlled the media.

Seems to me there's a large contingent, especially the media, that will attempt to paint every one of these events as legitimate as well. The modern day agenda driven media, regardless of which agenda, does a disservice to this country when the media's job should be to present facts backed up by evidence, so people can be exposed when they are misleading people in an effort to further an agenda. The media tries to make big stories out of rumors and accusations that if they were left to just stand on the facts wouldn't be near as big stories.

"Media" is plural. There are media who will paint events as legit and there are media who won't. And if media can tear anybody apart for more eyeballs, clicks, or page turns or whatever, they'll do it.

I certainly agree with that.

Right. Get that. Were the protesters not calling for his removal?

I commented on this earlier: same thing in North Carolina where when most people hear "UNC System", they think "UNC-Chapel Hill". Some of that is ignorance, but also some of it is a true belief that the "flagship" university for all intents and purposes IS the "system".

It's not just people on these threads, though; the media can't seem to get it straight either.

While I'm not someone necessarily calling for an explanation of what Wolfe might have done (or failed to do) to deserve his ousting, I am very curious about what he did or did not do that shouldn't first have been the responsibility of the Chancellor. He's resigned too, but I haven't seen him properly blamed for anything.

I agree to a point, but it wasn't national media members who protested at Mizzou, just like it wasnt media members who protested and rioted in Ferguson or Baltimore. This was a big story, and it was presented as such. Many people are skeptical of these events from the start, so any news program that doesnt share that skepticism is labeled as biased and liberal.

Well, one problem is the way media (for you Ph) runs with stories without taking some time to find out what's really going on. I mean I saw stories regarding the President's car hitting that guy and it was basically saying that the driver was not paying attention to the protestors and carelessly hit the guy, etc., then you get the video and he practically runs into the car. Yeah it was a big story, but there still should be an effort to get the facts right, instead of just taking one side's accusations and running with them. Shouldn't any story media covers be met with some skepticism until there is enough time and effort put into to getting the facts straight from both sides?

Sure. But people are going to be biased in their skepticism. And media are going to run with what they have because it's a bigger sin to be last to a story than wrong.

It should be the job of the news media to ALWAYS be skeptical of any story - and report things as facts only when verified.

Again, completely agree with that.

As far as skepticism, if the facts are just allowed to come out, then that skepticism will be shown to either be right or wrong.

Reporting the news requires no skepticism whatsoever, what you are talking about is investigative journalism.

Two problems with that. First, facts only exist to the point people believe them. Otherwise, they'll just keep searching for more "facts" that support their beliefs. Second, we rely on media to provide us with those facts.

Will you have a small minority of nuts out there when presented with the facts that still won't believe them sure, but most when presented with real facts will. Somewhere along the line "freedom of the press" became "freedom of the press to make stuff up, present accusations as truth and to distort things to fit an agenda" and because of that, the inherent skepticism people already have is just intensified.

To be fair true racists probably weren't interested in having any civil discourse on race relations to start with. Stuff like this does help alienate people who otherwise might be sympathetic. Although I think a lot of the same people on here showing up to make pithy comments worthy of an email thread with a bunch of other white frat brothers from the 80's probably haven't been taking the whole racial unrest issue with much seriousness to begin with.

Also the people saying this makes all future claims of racial issues less believable should make sure they apply the same logic to future "sincerely held beliefs" post-Kim Davis for ideological consistency. If the Missouri incident paints racial equality activists poorly, Davis sure as hell paints religious activists poorly as well.

There is ZERO doubt that Kim Davis paints religious activists poorly. I don't think I have seen anyone here argue that. I think you make a very apt comparison. Both situations are regrettable.

So the media will rush to report something that supports the "facts" of the beliefs that people want to believe and that's all that matters. Very easy to manipulate....hence the need for skepticism.

Is there any blame to go around?

So you're removing the operational adjective.

Not all privilege is the same. There is white privilege, black privilege, male privilege, economic privilege, etc. But they manifest themselves differently and it is important to understand how.

I know they aren't the same. I clearly said as much in that post. It's a messaging thing, which seems immensely important in this type of situation.

she paints religious activists accurately.

“The fog of fascism is descending quickly over many American universities. We have to fight back against these students.” — Alan Dershowitz

When Alan Dershowitz, a huge liberal, says these students have gone batshit crazy, it's time to just call off the dogs with "the agenda".

I'm embarrassed of all of the things I got involved with in college because I didn't have the ability to think for myself.

Screamin' Demons? Solidarity, brother.

A school officer and university system president are forced to resign and conservative america loses their fucking minds. The anti-political correctness and counter-protest sentiment is insane right now.
