Prediction Thread: UMBC @ Wake Forest - 8pm on ESPN3

How was the attendance? Heard they sent out an email offering $7 tickets and free popcorn.

This is how horrible UMBC was last year: 4-26. By Kenpom ratings, UMBC's 4 wins were over #308 Longwood, #343 Kennesaw St. and 2 wins over #345 Maine. There are 351 D-1 mens hoop teams. Their offensive efficiency was #345. Manning can name the score. WF will win by as much as he wants them to. This game is, by far, WF's easiest game of the season. WF plays no other team ranked in the 300s.

I guessed the score would be 84-60. Aren't there some folks on here predicting a NIT appearance for this team? I'm sure it'll be a much better team when everyone is back but the schedule is only going to get more difficult.

I think that genius pilchard is saying that manning chose to win the game by 5.

Crawford has a nice strike from the line but his outside shot was putrid last night . Plum ugly. Air balls and bricks. He was a Top 100 recruit so I hope this was an aberration .

It's a win. The Deacs advantage going into the game was the frontline and they delivered. Thomas with 21/17, Dinos with 19/16 and Collins with 10/7. Wonder if Collins can perform against the big boys. He has shown well against limited talent. Crawford looked like a frosh PG in his first varsity game with too much responsibility. Hope the late FT's help his confidence. Wilbekin and McClinton looked like last year. Moore is big.

Can't comment on the Wake defense because I did not see any played. They didn't get back in transition. They didn't stay in front of their counterpart. They were lazy on switches and then got lost or out of position. No pride. None. If this is what Manning is going to hang his hat on, he should be embarrassed. I would like to think it was first game whatever, but I saw too much of this last year. Disappointing.

I agree with Crawford. I think he will be ok he wasn't supposed to be thrown to the wolves so early, but it will help him in the long run. He was supposed to play behind or with Codi right now.

Well I said long ago that Collins will be the best of the bunch and I still believe this but I don't think Crawford will be far behind.

People have seen Collins play 1 game against terrible competition and now think he's better than Devin or Dinos (who happened to each outplay Collins in said game)?

Let's pump the brakes a bit. He's good. He could be very good. But it's one game.

We don't have a ton of depth inside... Devin, Dinos, and Collins will all get plenty of minutes without needing to play all 3 at the same time.

Think biggest take home from first 2 games is that we are not going to be able to be competitive with CMM and Hudson out--the lack of playmakers on the perimeter is going to make Devin/Dinos/Collins too easy to stop.

That being said, I think a lineup of CMM, Wilbekin, Hudson, Dinos, and Thomas will be pretty good. Dinos has obviously made a jump from frosh to soph year. By all accounts Hudson has done same thing. Collins can spell Dinos/Devin. Crawford will be serviceable assuming he is not asked to do so much so fast. McClinton gives you some rest minutes. I just fear the season/morale will be shot by the time this comes to fruition.

Reading these threads the morning after is always such a silly experience. Our fans are all over the place. Player is awesome! Player is shit! Fire the coaches! Glad we hired the coaches!

These were the two closest predictions (and the second doesn't quite tell the story):

67-64 Wake

I say we pull our typical crap and they stay within 10 points until the final minutes.

This was my favorite moment:

Did they get Jim Grobe to do color commentary? This guy seems like he should be running a Mom n' Pop shop somewhere in the country.

CMM will dramatically change our team. Dinos is a huge upgrade from his old self. Wish we saw a little more from Wilbekin.

All three need to be playing a lot of minutes First, because all three have talent on a rather untalented team. Second, because we lack depth at SF.

Collins has potential to be good but I don't know that there's too much question that CMM is our best player. I know wfufan22 won't admit to that, but its true. And hell if CMM isn't then Devin is.

I don't think we're going to be great from outside, but I also don't expect us to go 3-20 many times this year.
