Wake Forest @ Bucknell - Game Thread

Would be sweet to have the sharp shooting Alan Williams on this squad.

Who was the walk-on that dunked during garbage time - you know, back when we were good - that blew up the starters on the bench? Those were the days.

Potato-quality video, but fun nonetheless.

And now walk ons are part of the rotation

In fairness, we've got two guys hurt/suspended that would be playing significant minutes. We're lucky to have VanHorn, who was a really good HS player in Indiana, to come in and give us some solid minutes that don't kill the team.

Yeah, when we've basically got 3 scholarship guards unavailable, I'm nut really sure what some people expect. We're fortunate that VanHorn is at least serviceable to get us through until we get back to full strength.

Van Horn is a solid player...not a star, but a smart player who is not afraid to assert himself when needed. Every team needs guys who can give quality minutes without hurting the team on either end of the floor and who don't expect to gat x number of shots or else they pout.

Exactly. The fact that we've got a walk-on (who yes is on scholarship this year) that can play 20 minutes against a pretty good Bucknell team and not kill us, is real luxury. Now, I don't want him logging 20+ minutes against UVa, but it is nice to have a guy that won't hurt the team if the starters get in some foul trouble.

I think manning is just slow playing Collins. We can all see how promising he is. If manning wants earn every minute in practice, elimating bad habits, establishing defensive fundamentals, etc. I'm fine with it. His time will come obviously. Probably sooner than later.

I'm glad we won, but I'm even more excited about all 3 freshman. They along with Dinos Crab and Wilbekin, the next couple of seasons look promising.

So when do we expect CMM back? I know the initial timeline was 4 to 6 weeks. It has been about 3 weeks now? So mid December hopefully?

Does anyone have a link to a replay. I could not watch the game yesterday unfortunately and would like to view it. Watched the first game on ESPN3 replay and would like to see what adjustments we made.

This was on the CBS Sports Network, not sure if they have the same type set-up as ESPN, but that would be the place to start.

Same here. The first game was brutal but it looked like we made some adjustments and hopefully progress yesterday.

To be fair, one of the adjustments we made was that they missed the shots they were drilling in the 1st half. First half had a lot of possessions where we played 29 seconds of solid defense and they'd hit a contested 3, or the time Devin rejected a layup and it bounced perfectly to a set 3 point shooter. We certainly turned up the intensity in the 2nd half somewhat, but they also went ice cold when we left them open. Law of averages would suggest they'd return to earth, which they did, and we took advantage. Then they panicked a bit before both teams settled down and played solid ball to close it out.

I'd say the biggest difference in this game versus previous years is the team didn't panic. They stuck with the game plan and started out very focused in the 2nd half. I think a lot of the fans were ready for the typical "large lead turns into a blowout after halftime" move we'd become so accustomed to. By far the highlights of the game to me were 1) watching Crawford go from clearly nervous/uncomfortable in the 1st half to being a leader in the 2nd with the confidence to make some no-look passes and hit some big shots, and 2) A few of the Collins plays from the post - kid has serious potential both on the block and extending outside a bit.

Negatives were McClinton looking the same and Dinos struggling both from outside and not taking it strong at the basket inside. He's still missing a lot of bunnies.

He did some nice work on the boards in the 2nd half though. Wish he was more of a scoring threat, but hopefully Hudson will be when he gets back.

I had to add the blocks. Wonder what the thought process by Manning is? DM is certainly getting productivity out of him. Maybe he thinks a huge part of his education right now should come from sideline observation.

What's worse is that Manning takes Collins out right after he gets in a groove. Hard to figure, particularly when Obrien takes his place .
