BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

It's not a hard argument to make...

We're currently 67, but that's not yet based on any meaningful results on the court and it relies on the assumption we have players that aren't currently playing due to injuries, suspensions, etc. I'd say it's pretty easy to argue there are 100 teams in a better position than us given our success (of lack thereof) over the last 5 years.

No denying our horrible recent past and you can certainly argue that there are 100 programs in a better position than we are right now - but I would argue the other side. I think we are going to be easily within the top 100 teams this year, especially by the end of the year - and the program's trajectory indicates that we are going to be better in the future.

I'm not so confident on said trajectory. We've still got to prove we're even a post-season team this year, which certainly isn't a given. And even if we squeak into a tournament this year, we likely see a big drop-off next year and we don't have a class coming in that will be able to immediately fill in. We can say we're in better shape when we actually prove it on the court. Until then, it's hard to argue from the last 2 games, which have had some really low lows and a few highs, that we've made any sort of jump forward.

so a Wake fan can't comment on NCSU's home loss to a CAA team and them missing out on a top recruit that was deemed a lock to them just a week ago?

gtfo with that shit
Just seems silly to be trolling State and Gott when A) We too lost out on our top target just a couple weeks ago, and B) in his 4 seasons at State, Gott has 2 more Sweet 16 appearances than we do in the last 11 years. We have no room at all to talk shit right now.

ayo doesn't do perspective particularly well
Yes, my perspective on all of those dumb anti-Duke arguments people were making for the past year was all wrong.

Now my perspective on the NFL, ok.

posting on a message board is silly

if we're not going to revel, even just a bit, in an in-state school having a bad week we should just shut this place down

duke and carolina are elite programs and you're damn right i'm gonna make fun of them if something bad happens even though they're better than us

I doubt any State fans are benchmarking their program against ours and saying "Wow! Things couldn't be better! We're better than Wake!" Of course they're better off than us right now #hotsportstake. Me being a Wake fan doesn't mean that I can't objectively look at State and think that Gott isn't going to take them to the next level of being an elite program.

Is your position that we are unable to critique any program that is better than us right now? That's basically what you're saying.

no your perspective is that you've endured like 7 shitty years of wake sports out of the 8 years you've been an adult and you think you've gotta corner the market on being a cynical jackass

We're losing Devin and Codi. Sure, that hurts, but we're replacing them directly with sophomore versions of Crawford and Collins. Then we're adding sharpshooting Woods and to a lesser extend Childress. We'll have true centers in Moore and SJM. Dinos stays. Crab stays. Wilbekin stays.

Codi and Devin averaged 26/13 combined last year. Collins and Crawford are averaging 24/10 through two games. Granted that's against bad competition and it's only two games, but their minutes are also far lower.

We also won't be playing Collins at center. Nor will we be playing multiple guards with no outside shot. The potential for the jump forward is that we're replacing established production with similar players with higher ceilings, combined with a much more sensibly constructed, deeper team.

Hear hear!

If you can't see a positive trajectory for our program right now, I don't know what to tell you.

Pretty hard for anyone not to have a positive trajectory when you are coming from rock bottom.

Exactly. We're not longer awesomely awful, but we're still historically awful and there's no guarantee that we're getting better.

I think there is a guarantee that we're getting better - maybe not as fast as we would like and maybe not by an order of magnitude - but definitely better.

We are NOT historically awful. That's nuts .

Um, yes we are. Historically, from Odom through Dino we were a Top 25 team over two decades. We're now struggling to be a Top 100 team. That's the very definition of historically awful.
