KenPom 2015-2016: Back on Top: #1 in Luck (1/11)

Yes, second least likely comeback this year so far.

Canisius came back from down 11 with 1:20 left and the other team had the ball. (0.1% chance)

UVA was down 7 with 20 seconds left and we had the ball (0.2% chance)

The comeback actually exceeded the Bill James "safe" lead threshold, and in doing so I believe became one of 5 games or less in the past 30 years to do so.

UNC-Duke 8 points in 17 seconds, and UVA-Miami ACCT game from a few years back comes to mind as two that exceeded it as well.

Seems like our lead was more fullproof.

We have the #1 strength of schedule right now.
Long Beach State is #2, they've won and lost one additional game, but they're overall #74 to our #122...

Like WF's chances to finish the season with the SoS title. So, we have that going for us which is nice...

So you are saying the UVa game was a historical loss? bummer :(

Because I'm a sick bastard I watched the ending again when I came across it on U earlier. Amazing how many small little things -- if Crawford coulda just held on to the damn ball when we're up 7, if we in bound the ball to anyone else besides DT when we're up 4 -- went against us. It was truly historic

What's historic is our ranking of 312 in defense in NCAA basketball.

MD was up 10 with a minute to go and lost. BTW, the next year, that team won the NC. Just saying.

that fucking game cost me $100

and I made the 5:1 bet when MD had that 10 point lead. FUCK maryland.

I show 312 in scoring defense through February 1 according to the NCAA basketball stats.

We play a fast pace and play a hard schedule so raw scoring defense isn't very informative. That said, our defense is horrible no doubt.

Numbers/Doofus, any guess as to where Kenpom will have us ranked at the start of next season?

Was looking at KenPom and realized that 7 of our losses are to the top 7 rated teams in the conference, all of which are top-35 teams. Obviously we need to win some of those games to matter, but that really does indicate how tough it has been. In this ACC there is no margin for error. Good thing we excel at erring. Thanks Wellman.

It depends who comes back. I think we might be a bit worse than 75, especially if any contributing underclassmen leave. I don't think KP preseason really takes into account transfers. And none of the incoming freshman are strong enough to get a Kenpom preseason projection.
