Some dude jumped in front of the train in front of me. Been stuck underground not moving for like an hour and a half now. Lady next to me is losing it.

So you saw it happen? How did you and the people around you react? Did you see it coming- did you notice anything wrong with the person?

RTQ,a few thought for you on the lawn. The poster above who said to use a very shade tolerant grass variety is really on to something. Your lawn is way, way shadier than most grass likes.

Second, from the pic, the ground looks like it is pretty hard packed (high clay content????). It should be loosened up so the grass roots can grow through it, and quite possibly amended with compost, top soil, or other organic matter rich additive. Rototilling, or at least raking to loosen up a few inches will help. Of course,if you already have seed in the ground, don't do any of this. If the seed you just got (and may have planted) doesn't do well, then the forgoing will help a fall planting of the shade tolerant grass seed.

Also, get your soil tested by your local agriculture extension service. Just tell them you want the recommendations to be for growing turf grass.

Thanks! I did already put down that grass seed over the weekend (and that picture I posted was from 2 years ago). I raked first then loosened up the ground with my favorite yard tool, the garden weasel. Fall planting was tough because of how many leaves fall back there. I feel like raking over tiny baby grass would be damaging, but not raking would smother it.

You like the garden weasel even more than those gigantic mitts you use to pick up leaves- I thought those were your favorite.

The Garden Weasel looks like a really cheaply put together product. I'm seeing lots of plastic. Doubt it lasts very long.

Damn, wasn't there a boards poster a few years ago, BOOM, maybe, that actually saw a dude jump in front of a train?

So many sad faces on campus this morning. My schadenfreude is in overdrive.

Hate to break it to you, but fines are getting phased out, some libraries don't even collect anymore! Unless they're like legit lost. I know, crazy, it doesn't make sense to me either. I'll throw myself in front of a subway train before that happens here, let me tell you!

Well I do rather love those too. The garden weasel makes windchime-esque sounds if you wiggle it around though!

I absconded with mine from my parents' garage. Not sure how old it is but it has held up fine.

You know bob, this is the kind of post a person makes who goes around strangling alley cats just to watch their expressions change.

I've owed $25 to my local library for like 15 years. Every time I check out a book they're like, "do you want to pay this fine?" and I say "nah" and they say "okay."

The dude jumped in front of the train in front of the train I was on. Sometime last spring someone jumped in between cars at Lexington Ave/53rd. I was on one of the two cars, kinda in the middle of the car. Didn't see anything but certainly felt it.

Sounds like time is of the essence. You may never get an opportunity like this again.
