Dan Collins on "fiesty Deacs"

I like to hear about the greater intensity. I want some of that 2006 and 2007 swagger back. I don't want over-confidence but I hate timidity. We won games in '06 because we weren't scared of anyone, not necessarily because we were better.

I get what you are saying but we were better than people. Hate when people say that season had anything to do with anything besides skill. That defense was about as talented a defense as you find in CFB.

I probably didn't word that well. We definitely won most of our games because we were better. Didn't mean to downplay that at all. The skill was there. But the swagger can't be given too much credit, in my opinion. We played with NO fear. It probably helped us more in '07...Maryland game comes to mind.
 
^yea I def agree just didn't mean my comment to sound confrontational. I'd kill to have half the swagger Phonz and AC and that whole defense had on this new group of guys. Hope they play with their hair on fire.

Didn't sound confrontational at all! I agree 100%. Will be interesting to see who steps up besides Nikita!

I'm confused. In one post you say it is all skill and in another you say you want to see swagger?

It definitely comes into play (particularly in the modern game) that both "swagger", or an "air of self-confidence", and skill together contribute to on field performance.

We definitely have skill sets like future top 5 NFL CB Draft Pick Kenny Okoro. Kenny had "skills" in 2010...he did not lose his skill set..he lost his football "state of mind." He lost his mojo.

Didn't say anything was all of either one of those. I said that I hate when people say 06/07 was something besides talent. Because those teams were as talented defensively as the ACC has had in a while. That said, IMO skill leads directly to having an air of confidence. AC and Phonz knew they were the best and they acted accordingly. I want more of the players that have know they have the skill set that allows them to excel in the game and gives them a chance to show off their "swagger."
 
AC and Phonz had swagger and skill and were great.

Two years ago, Okoro had swagger and skill and looked like a stud.
Last year, Okoro had swagger without skill and looked like a fool.
 
Unfortunately very true Ph. Hope he gets that turned around this season, we are going to need him.

Agreed. He's shown he has something there.
