Official thread about the movie you just saw

BTW, I wasn't knocking Monsters U per se. Just in comparing Pixar sequels, FD was on a different level - much closer to TS3.

I wrote this after the first time I saw it, and now after the second it still stands. Brooklyn is the most stunning, beautiful movie I've ever seen.

Not technically a movie, but Stranger Things on Netflix is just excellent. It's like mixing Stephen King, John Carpenter, and Spielberg into a pot and making an eight hour movie out of it.

Saw Everybody Wants Some!!, thought it was pretty enjoyable. No plot whatsoever, Linklater-style, but cool how he was really able to create like 10 different well-formed characters.

Yes. Linklater is able to distill a small moment in time (college orientation week) and present it in such a universal way that it is even relatable to people who didn't experience it.

Was there a palma character who lost his virginity during freshman orientation week?

I don't know plama very well, but I bet that he is in there somewhere

Watching stranger things...it's ok but expected better based on all the sloppy bjs it's getting. Maybe it ramps up next episode or two...I'm two in so far.

Everybody Wants Some!! did remind me of how fucking awesome it was during that period when the dorms opened before classes started.

I think it is pretty targeted in terms of audience, so if you fall outside that group you may not like it.

I was planning to see Brooklyn in theaters after I read that Nick Hornby wrote the screenplay, but put it on my "catch it on HBO" list when I saw he adapted from a book. Well it's on HBO now and I just finished watching it and I agree with the quoted sentiment, though not to the same degree (I won't go so far as to say "I've ever seen"). It's a sweet movie, but not cloying. I've seen several movies with Saoirse Ronan before but she never really stood out to me. She did with this though and I'll be keeping an eye out for more of her work.

Ronan is the second nominee for the most recent Oscar for lead actress that I watched in the last couple of weeks. Room was the other. Brie Larson, who did win, was affecting too but I would have given the award to Ronan instead.
