Second Debate Thread

If most are good people, why wouldn't they vote for trump? Why can't a Muslim be undecided?

Never said they can't be undecided or vote for Trump. But pretty sure most polling is showing a strong majority of Muslims are for Hillary. And you don't think good people can vote for Hillary? While I think Hillary voters are making a mistake, I have no doubt many are good people.

I agree with you, many muslims are decided. I agree with you that they are mostly good people. Why do you think they are voting against trump? Are they wrong to do so? I think the anti Islamic backlash is as strong as it has been since 9/11. I think trump is not helping that community. His opinions are very alienating to mostly good people who are a very vulnerable minority right now. Honestly, I really get sad listening to his remarks. I don't really care what he thinks (he is not going to be president), but it is a reflection of what a large minority of the population believe. I had a lot more faith in the American population until this election.

Well, I can't wait to see the debate, currently traveling in Europe. What were the big zingers...I mean I woke up to 28 texts from friends about the debate.

Thanks in advance

Lots of sniffling and BS.

I had an over/under of 50% from both combined

There was a Quayle/Bentsen moment when Hilary compared herself to Lincoln and trump basically said she was no abe Lincoln. That was the highlight for me.

"Why do you think they are voting against trump? Are they wrong to do so?"
Because they disagree with his policies/rhetoric and don't like him. It's not my place to tell someone who to vote for. Let people vote for the person they feel will best represent them. Most Muslims oppose Trump. I support him. Because I think he makes far more sense than Hillary when it comes to immigration and trade.

the problem for trump is that now it goes to analysis of what they actually said and the batshit crazy statements that he made such as the fact that he would throw his political opponent in jail if he won gets highlighted. That might play with the Breitbart mouth breathers but it horrifies most of the country

Well this is an interesting interpretation of that exchange.

Earlier I compared Trump to Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack, annoying all the country club blue bloods.

He is now morphing into Rocky. Despite his wealth he is culturally from the other side of the tracks, so that still works.
He is the ultimate underdog. He has no money (compared to Hillary), no ground game, no support from the higher ups on either side. He has zero endorsements from any newspapers. Academics despise him.
He takes what should be a knockout punch but is still standing. His opponents can't understand why he is still on his feet. Then you see him smile a little just before unleashing a barrage of haymakers. The punches are not particularly pretty but they keep coming and you realize this fight is going to go the distance.
Trump even speaks in that same ineloquent manner of Rocky. He even kind of looks like an out of shape Stallone.
Trump is the ultimate underdog American story. There is no reason he should even be in this fight at all, but he will go down swinging.
Much like the first Rocky movie, I suspect Hillary will win the decision in the end, but she will be bloodied and bruised and will not want a rematch.

Trump is certainly entertaining. He can even make normally dull event like a debate "must see TV".

This isn't a damn television show, this is an election for the President of the United States of America.

Last night was, again, another reason in a string of hundreds (if not thousands at this point) demonstrating that Donald Trump is an absolute menace to the American people should he be elected.

I'm glad people are entertained by Trump---that will help us tremendously should he be elected leader of the free world and the most powerful man in the world. Quite entertaining indeed.

How bad was last night?

A lot of people consider it a success for Trump despite:

1. Blatantly disagreeing with his running mate on foreign affairs.
2. Showing support for Assad.
3. Stating that his political opponent should be in jail instead of running for POTUS.
4. Referring to Clinton as "the devil" who has "hate in her heart".
5. Deflecting the audio/video from 10 years ago as "locker room talk".

The bar is so low for him that it's comical. The candidates are clearly being judged on sliding scales, and last night is another good example of that as well.

If any other candidate in debate history said/did anything almost anything that Trump did last night then people would be aghast. We are just so used to the childish antics of Trump that he is basically given a pass. There is no "shock factor" anymore about it.

I just shook my head during most the debate last night because it's unfathomable that this is still even something we have to watch.

I am sorry you were entertained. I just do not fear Trump like you guys do. Do you really think he is dropping a nuke on someone? If not, he is less likely, not more likely, to get us in another war. His trade policies are a little nuts, but he will have to get that through congress. Whatever he does will be compromised like Hell. He is all about negotiations. He has no position that is nonnegotiable.

If he does not actually nuke someone, there is nothing to fear from that great big teddy bear called "The Donald". I really don't see any reason to think he would actually use nukes.

I just don't see where he will do more damage to the country than Hillary. I would love to have a good president, but that option is not available to us. So sit back and enjoy the show.
