BBall Recruiting Thread 2k17-Chaundee Brown commits to WAKE! Brandon Randolph to AZ

Can't find anything that suggests either SJM or Woods were consensus top 100 guys of that Woods, JC, or Melo were anywhere close (though we clearly don't have final rankings in Melo's case).

SJM is difficult because he reclassified, I think. We was in the top 90 of his original class on some sites but then reclassed and some never actually reranked him, if I recall correctly)

SJM was a consensus Top 100 recruit before he went back to England and reclassified to graduate a year early.

No one is saying consensus. In many. many years and speaking with many many, many recruiters, the two answers I most hear regarding the differences between guys at #60-150 are laughs and how many times people get to see the players.

JC is perfect example of this. He wasn't a great player until early in senior year. It's damn near impossible for a player to go from not being ranked to being Top 100. It rarely happens. People have too much invested in the rankings and don't go to see players who aren't ranked and not playing at HS powerhouse.

Going from nowhere to 4* on ESPN is huge leap.

Actually, I did. So I am 50/50 this year as are my usually unreliablend sources. Same as many of the so called experts

Do recruits ever take official visits after committing? I known it's common in football.

It's not very common in basketball. But Brandon Childress did that here and Melo Eggleston is taking his official visit to Wake this weekend after committing in April.

If you meant officials to other schools than the one they are committed to, then no that doesn't happen in basketball without decommitting first.

Yeah. I meant taking OV's to other schools after verbally committing to another school. It's not uncommon in football so I was just curious.

It happens with early commits. But the trend over the past couple of years is going against the super-early commits of a few years ago.

Also, it's quite rare for basketball "commits" to change their mind. Very few do each year. However, in football, it's quite commonplace.

Since 2017 recruiting is done barring something unforeseen, I thought I would take a quick look at where we go from here. (It may be time for a new recruiting thread by the way.)

I expect that we will look at the grad transfer market in the spring. But we don't have a lot of obvious playing time to sell a potential transfer. It wouldn't surprise me if Greg McClinton just returned for his redshirt senior season at this point instead of taking a grad transfer. The only reason he wouldn't is if he just wants more playing time somewhere else.

For 2018, I think we'll give out three scholarships. We are definitely in the market for a point guard, another wing and a big.

Devon Dotson is both our top point guard target and top target overall as far as I can tell. UNC taking other commits and bowing out of the running helps us tremendously. The main competition will be Kansas and NC State. Although both Kentucky and Duke are keeping tabs on him, obviously that's a game changer if either of them offer and prioritize him. His brother Dalen Dotson plays at North Carolina A&T which will help us tremendously in our pitch to keeping instate, close to home. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article84594612.html

Sharone Wright jr. is being targeted as a "big guard" whatever that means. He's already 6'5 and is projected by his doctors to grow to 6'8. I think we're targeting him as a point guard but it could be shooting guard as he's listed as both in different places. The staff has done a great job with the early legwork on him and we are an early favorite.

Isaiah Mucius is our top wing target right now. He is listed as a Top 25 player and Wake was on him extremely early being the first P5 program to offer. Losing Brandon Randolph hurts here because they are best friends.

David McCormack is our top big man target. But he will draw Blue Blood attention that will make us unlikely to ever receive a commitment.

I feel very good about the staff landing a great point guard and wing in this class. We have offered several at both spots and are in good shape with a lot of them. For a post product, its still early to see where the staff decides to focus beyond the David McCormack obligatory attempt at a home run.

JC and Woods were both outside the top 200 on most sites
