Clawson said in his PC that practice this week was terrible and he had a bad feeling about it.

That's on him. Didn't they say we haven't won after a bye week under Clawson?

We have played lousy off of bye weeks for years. We did it under Grobe, too. Too lazy to compile the stats, but would bet we are way below .500 off of bye weeks dating back to the start of the Caldwell era.

Aren't we below .500 coming off a win, a loss, a home game, an away game, a bye week, or a full moon?

not going after a transfer qb for three straight offseasons has been puzzling

Oh, I see. That explains his decision to employ and stubbornly stick to a crap game plan. Maybe they sucked all week because he had them practicing plays his QB is incapable of executing.

Bottom line. When you lose to Army, at home, with a 5-2 record and a chance to clinch a bowl berth and proceed to shit all over the field.....

... it's time to rethink things.

Literally nothing I've heard from Clawson would make me doubt his ability to fire coaches not getting it done.

Yep- I saw it live and in person and it was not pretty.

Most disappointed loss in the Clawson era and as a 7 point favorite no less. :(

Yeah, but literally nothing I've heard from Clawson indicates he thinks a change is needed.

The thing is on a homecoming week 10 years after the orange bowl, a chance to be bowl eligible and create some excitement with the "casual" fan/alum. Besides not actually being bowl eligible, this was a lost chance at home to show some progress and generate some interest ($). Now if we beat VA, it still won't have the same cache. And if we don't beat VA, then the storyline becomes what some have already said: So Wake Forest. get stuck at five. Who wants to be playing BC for a bowl game (screw APR).

I think our team came into the guy over confident and complacent. When they honored the 2006 during a timeout in the field house endzone, members of the 2006 team were pointing at the players on the field, I think telling them to defend this turf or something probably along those lines, basically trying to pump our players up and the players on the field just kind of stood there and didn't acknowledge them. Unfortunately I think coming in with a 5-2 record and playing FSU very competitively last time out got into their heads. I think that's probably what Clawson was concerned about in practice last week and unfortunately Clawson and staff didn't push the right buttons to get them out of it. Combined with what seemed to be a very strange game plan on offense, got our butts whipped. Now instead of having 6 wins in the bank and not having that hanging over their heads these last 4 games, they've got the pressure of getting at least one more win to guarantee a bowl with 2 games that are probably not winnable and 2 that are probably close to pick-ems.

Really disappointing performance, but predictable that the game would be a low-scoring struggle. Army's defense is stout. This is their best team in more than a decade, and they were coming off an embarrassing performance. Figured WF would get Army's best game, and the fact is that in the middle of playing high-profile ACC games, playing Army is a letdown spot.

Even so, WF had chances to put the game away. Really hated attempting the 46 yard field goal late in the 3rd quarter on 4th and 4 (after the Washington TD was overturned) when a TD likely puts the game away. With a 3 point lead, a FG doesn't force Army to change its offensive gameplan, while a TD does. Plus a 46 yard FG is far from an automatic (and it wasn't). Had a bad feeling about the game from that point forward. Clawson put too much reliance on the defense.

Think that WF will play well against UVA this week which will take some of the sting out of the lost opportunity on Saturday. BTW, think Wolford is banged up. He never had a cannon, but right now he is struggling to throw a 10 yard out.

Losing the game sucks. But worse than the loss itself was how pathetic we looked, calling the entire rest of the season into question. We are essentially back to week 2 after the Tulane game wondering what the hell is going on with our program.

I don't think we'll get that 6th win. Virginia has improved as has BC. As always, forget Clemson and Louisville.

Our gutless fourth down play calling was horrendous.
Our insistence on throwing the ball all game was horrendous.
Wolford was horrendous.

Frustrating game all around on the offensive side of things.

Completely agree, when it looked like we had scored a TD that would've put us up 17-7 (with a good PAT) I thought that was probably it since it's very hard for a team like Army to come back from 2 scores down in the 2nd half. As soon as they showed the replay on the board I knew it would be overturned, I thought that would be the turning point and I think it was. Washington and Steven Claude have really disappointed this year, after hearing so many positive things about them coming into the season. On replay it really looked like to me, Washington was kind of careless with the ball after he hit the ground and if he had just kept 2 hands on the ball it would've been a catch. Also, hate it for John Armstrong that he's made 2 great kick off returns and in Clawson's words, "we haven't learned we can't tackle people on the opponent's kick coverage team."

While we are piling on, it would have been nice if Hines could have stayed on his feet on the long pass that came a play before the 2nd INT of the game. The pass hit him right in stride, and he should have taken it to the house for a TD. I guess I would rather him secure the catch versus drop it, but a good WR makes the catch and keeps on trucking on a pass like that.

I didn't think it hit him right in stride. I thought he had to twist around to catch it--throwing him off balance. But I am probably wrong.
