Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Ryder Cup experience is one of the most overrated ideas thrown around about constructing the team or making pairings. Didnt bother Koepka/Moore/Pieters/RCB this time. Didnt bother Reed/Spieth in 2014, didnt bother Nicolas Coelsarts in 2012, didnt bother JB or AK in 2008.

Westwood was the most experienced player on the European team (and one of their best ever) and he was awful. Kaymer won it for the Euros 4 years ago at Medinah.

I respect your opinion on the matter. However, in nearly every interview Darren Clarke spoke about getting the young guys some experience and having them play with the older guys, etc. It's not a clearly media driven issue. Clarke brought it up more than anyone else

I think Clarke got spooked by all the rookies that automatically qualified for a team that was going to have to play on US soil, and that played heavily into his picks and subsequent decision making.

Was watching some of the Dunhill while working out the past 2 mornings. They're showing Kingsbarns this morning. It's definitely easier than Carnoustie but it's a cool looking course. I love links style courses, and this is a cool tourney to watch.

IMO, Tiger got spooked when he saw he was paired with Mickelson and then bailed. I don't think Tiger cold handle the combination of the lack of confidence he has in his short game and having Mickelson standing over him watching it potentially go awry.

I don't think so. The tour would have loved to have Tiger there under any circumstances. He could have named his playing companions for the 1st 2 days. And as great a chipper as Phil is, he'll muff the occasional chip as much as the next guy because he likes to go for the high degree of difficulty. And while Phil and Tiger aren't friends, you gotta think Phil would have been nice to him in his 1st action in forever. (Plus, I think much of their bad history was Stevie related, and Stevie is gone.) I think it had to do with getting back to practice after the RC and seeing that some aspect(s) of his game was not where it needed to be. Hopefully he learned from the last time that no one wants to see him yipping chips and committing Hitlers and Saddam Husseins when he's bunkered and that he's too embarrassed to see that from himself.

Oh he got spooked alright--by the way he is hitting the ball.

It's gotta be a combo of being a full field event, playing with Phil (the only thing that really changed after he committed) and lack of prep.

He's going through the classic Range Swing vs Course Swing. Puring it on the range, but when the course is concerned, excluding the chunked 8 irons, he apparently still looks "rusty"

I stick to my belief that Tiger about-faced when he realized he was paired with Phil. Pair Tiger with Stricker in that event and I think he sticks with his commitment.

Can't really blame Tiger if that is the truth. I wouldn't want to play two rounds with Phil either if I didn't have to. The guy is a total douche.

PGA Tour begins a new era with drug testing Drug testing also began this week on the European PGA Tour, while the LPGA Tour began its program at the start of the season. The British Open will not test for drugs until next year. "I've been tested by the IGF or Olympic testing once this year and that was the Friday of the US Open, but it was only a urine test," XxXxxxx said. "I on average probably get tested four to five times a year, which is very little compared to the rest of the Olympic sports." "So, I mean, for example, HGH is only -- you can't really pick it up in a urine test. I could use HGH and get away with it. So I think blood testing is something that needs to happen in golf just to make sure that it is a clean sport going forward." Even though this was earlier in 2016, this was going to be the first week of the new season.......

Matsuyama lapped the field and hit some putts this week in Shanghai. He has game to win a major or 2 if he cans some putts. Bill also had a nice tourney with a T-4.

Tiger is saying he is going to play in the Hero World Challenge. I am going out on a limb right now and predicting a top 20 finish for him. Mark it down.

Does the PGA weigh in on pairings? I thought the host club got to do it. If so and this is Tigers tournament he can probably pick his partner(s) himself

Why do people think Phil would bother him as a partner? They just worked together on the Ryder Cup task force and by all reports worked well together. Thought the bad blood there was water under the bridge.

Some people speculated that he pulled out of the Napa tournament because he was to be paired with Phil. Seems like just speculation though.
