Notre Dame game in 2020 moved to Charlotte

I preface this by saying I don't really care about us doing this, but in the other cases a team isn't giving up an already scheduled home game against the same opponent to play these neutral-site games. We are
We'll still have six home games, and the big check will help pay for those new buildings. I still can't listen to Wellman without taking a shower afterwards to get the slime off me.

Pretty sure the premier was quoted in the CLT observer saying we still had 6 true home games that year

so wake still has a full home slate, and gets much more money and higher profile for a game that's only about an hour from winston

the indignity

You and I were at two very different games then.

If you were at the Wake-Notre Dame game at BB&T and estimate that 80% of the crowd was Notre Dame fans, I don't know what to tell you. That simply wasn't the case. Not even close to the case.

Biff doesn't understand how things work. What a shock!

Stadiums give the home teams the gate for a rental fee. The concessionaire gets a cut of concessions. The venue gets a cut of the concessions. The home team gets a cut of the concessions.

As he should do most of the time, Biff should keep his ignorant, wise ass statements to himself. He should listen to Lincoln, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

And you said we should get the whole thing.

Well a "full slate" is 7 games now, but I agree with you that it's a good business move.

People love making mountains out of molehills.

I wonder if they're planning to include the Charlotte game in the season ticket package. I'm guessing they are.

There probably won't be any nearby surface lots left for tailgating by then.

He's got to be joking, 25-30% at the most.

Yeah - that would be 28K ND fans to 7K WF fans if the attendance was around 35K. I was at the game, and there were not more ND fans than WF fans. I would agree that ND fans were 25-30% at most.

AIR, it was a chilly night and folks were buddled up. Not a whole lot of green and gold garb visible. We parked in the packed Joel lot and other than an ND group of 4 next to us it was definitely all Wake fans. I do recall ND hosted a pre-game alum tailgate in the baseball stadium where I observed maybe 1500-1800 milling about. The roar when Pendergrass(sp) scampered in with the first TD was deafening.

BTW, was that the last time the Goodyear blimp flew around Groves/BB&T ?

I don't think this is true at all. This is the first time since 2012 that we've had seven home games.

We aren't getting gate revenues at all. My understanding is that we were guaranteed "X" amount of money from the Charlotte Sports Foundation, which is roughly 3x the amount we would normally get for a home game in revenue.

Is it 3x what we would typically get for an opponent like ND?

Just because we don't normally have 7 games doesn't mean that it's not a standard practice across the ACC (particularly) to have 7 home games.

Would be interesting to see how the ACC breaks down.

Virginia hasn't had less than 7 in the past 5 years. Looking up other teams now.

2020 Schedule (assuming the ACC does not change the out of division opponents):

Home:

App. State
Tulane
BC
Clemson
Cuse
Miami

ND in Charlotte

Road:

@ ODU
@ State
@ L'ville
@FSU
@ Duke

Ambivalent about the decision to play in Charlotte. This is different than playing Clemson in Tokyo or FSU in Orlando rather than at Groves. Essentially any WF fan that would've gone to the game in W-S, can still go to Charlotte to see WF/ND. Would guess that the game will be part of the season ticket package, but the price of the ticket will be much higher, and WF season ticket holders will have the option to opt out of the Charlotte game purchase.

BTW, pretty sure that I was the only one who raised that the fact the volleyball was playing about half of their home games at a local Winston private school. While this is the WF "sports" board, realize that there is more interest here in the Bundesliga than WF non-revenue sports. That said, it's lame that any Division one sport sponsored by WF is forced to play home games at a local high school. Sucks for the players, helps explain why the program has been mediocre to awful forever and just makes WF seem low rent (even if Reynolds Gym is being renovated; WF now owns LJVM; why not make it sure it's available for all home games?). Will never understand those that care about WF sports who post here have a WGAF attitude about anything other than basketball and football.

This thread reminds me why I stopped coming here a while back.

the game won't be part of the season ticket package, will go on sale in 2019.

There are a couple of teams in the ACC that have had 2 years in the past 5 with less than 7 home games, but most have 1 or 0.

There are several problems with this move:

This undercuts any brand/value you are attempting to build that your program is on par with other Power 5 programs. Second, the message it sends to the more elite recruits you're
attempting to grab is that you honestly don't foresee things getting significantly better with your program in four years. Just lip service. Because, if you honestly did, why in the hell would you
sell your soul for a game in front of a ND home crowd in what could have significant bowl implications for your program? I mean, if you sincerely, truthfully believe you are building "champions",
then 2020 would be extremely important to host ND in a hostile BB&T Field environment as big-time bowl scouts "should" be in attendance. Right?

No, just more LOWF bullshit from an inept AD who could care less about wins and losses and sold his program down the river for the almighty dollar. Which he continually claims he doesn't need.
Show up, take an ass kicking and get paid. That's what this screams. Fuck you Wellman.

And, NO. This is not Bristol with VT/TN nor is it Orlando with a Miami/FSU. This is a complete sellout for a program that could use any advantage it can obtain to win a big ballgame. Oh, and to build
"champions". Don't forget that part!

Awesome to get a game at BOA against ND. Great for fans and Wake gets more exposure. Pretty sure it will be nationally televized. Also im sure recruits will love it.
