General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

I'm just a guy who watched my Schoolhouse Rock and it turned me a little cynical

It will be interesting to see if Trump defers to Pence on these matters. Trump defended PP (outside of abortion rights) in the primaries, but letting Franklin the Turtle and CrossfitRyan mobilize on this wouldn't shock me either (sadly)

It will cost the government more to deliver the same amount of healthcare as they don't have the delivery systems in place. Further, there will be inordinately more costs for things like cancer treatments that PP keeps in check by early detection that won't happen if PP is defunded.

PP is one of the typical RW bumper sticker policies that sound good but don't sense either fiscally or morally.

Kaep didn't vote? Unless his official residence is in Nevada it wouldn't have mattered.

He said he didn't trust either of the candidates on the issues he was protesting. While one was clearly worse than the other, he does have a point.

Edit: According to Wikipedia he was born in Wisconsin. If he's still registered there he could have potentially made a big difference. Not one vote, but you get what I mean.

He went to high school in CA so that's why I said Nevada.

Another football person did not vote....Nick Saban. Said he was unaware of the election. "we are focused on other things here."

I sincerely wonder if Saban ran for governor of Alabama as a dem if he would win. He may be the one person who could single handedly make the people of AL question their party allegiance...well, other than Trump. But he just disguised himself as a Pub.

If he ran as a republican, I really don't think it would be close.

I doubt many college coaches are going to get too political.

My take on that is he said it to shut down any further questioning on the subject.

What is there to compromise about. You control everything, you get anything you want. Trump is probably an exceptional compromiser for divided government. He probably won't ever have divided government.

You are assuming that Trump will let Republicans in congress walk all over him. I don't think he will do that. He will work with them in many areas, of course, but I don't think Trump will just lay down and let congress tell him what he is going to do...for 3 reasons: 1) He has never shown any indication that he would let anyone walk over him, 2) the President has a tremendous amount of power & leverage....the Executive Branch has gotten more & more powerful relative to the Legislative Branch for many years now, under both political parties, and 3) I really believe that Trump wants to get things done and become known as the first president we have had in a long time who is not just your normal partisan political hack. As I said earlier, he has already proven that he wasn't at all hesitant to criticize both the Bushes and the Clintons. How many other presidents can you remember who denounced the most powerful political families in both political parties?

I think he walks all over Congress on the things he cares about. Infrastructure spending for example. They owe him. They will fall in line. I think there are plenty of things he just doesn't care about and will have no problem rubber stamping. Everyone wins !
