Good times.

No mention of his off-the-court issue this summer... Are we even sure he'll be back? Signs of a well-researched article

Ty's production practically doubled last year from the previous two years. By 2040 he's gonna be all-acc

Ty, Ty, Ty....

His three best games last year were Iowa, UVA, and Miami. It's not coincidence at all that those were our three best games last year. That kind of shot blocking presence in the middle, when he was actually dialed in for short periods, made him our biggest game changer (along with potentially JTT going off). Had he maintained the level of play of the second half of those games for the entire season, we still would have stunk, but we would have won 12 or 13 games instead of 8. Instead, he couldn't (can't?) get his head straight for more than 3 10 minute stretches all year and we ended up with what we saw...:rulz:

Our biggest game changer? Ty Walker?

That Miami game was NOT a good game from him. Reggie Johnson dropped a career-high 25 on us, scoring on Walker at will, Ty having no chance to stop him outside of fouling him - including the final game-losing foul, gifting Miami the win.

Hurray, he had 4 blocks and made 4 layups. He also pulled down a pathetic 3 defensive rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time.

If there was ever a game where you could look at Ty's skills as a Junior and think, wow, that guy has developed absolutely nothing about his game in 3 years at Wake Forest - that was the game.

Eh, I half watched/listened to the Miami game via ESPN360 while at work that night. I must have just seen the moments he played well. In any case, it definitely holds true in the other two games mentioned.

Do you actually disagree with the overall point of my post (that his natural ability gives him the ability to influence games when he plays well, but he somehow manages to never play well) or have you been conditioned by the boards to look for something/anything to disagree with?

Ty's production has been woefully consistent in my opinion.

My exact thoughts.

And looking at that picture of him and thinking about all his indiscretions, I want to go "mama" on him and give him a piece of my mind.

Ty is still on the team?

Officially, yes. However, that is only nominally true at this point. He left summer school after the "situation" developed. More will be determined concerning his status next week.

"That Walker couldn’t earn more court time for a team that finished 8-24 overall and 1-15 in the ACC is not an encouraging sign."

You can take that "conditioned by the boards" crap and stuff it. I watched just about every damn game last year and suffered through every excruciating minute of Ty Walker seeing the floor in a Wake uniform.

Look, if you go all out you can make your school and fans proud even when you don't play well. But Ty Walker's horrible attitude, his reactions on the bench, his pouting, his selfish play on the floor - it starts with his going-for-the-highlight blocks and in the background he's giving up career highs. He's like a showboating defensive back who makes a few picks by cheating off his man but gives up 3 td's a game.

The UVA game you think he played so well in? 1 rebound. A 7 footer. Against UVA. ONE DAMN REBOUND while Travis pulled down 10. Such a total lack of effort, plus he gave up another career high in points to their center. If he put a tenth as much energy into boxing out and grabbing a rebound as he did yelling for the ball in awkward post positions he'd be starting - instead we have to throw a should-have-been-redshirted Carson Derosiers to the wolves.

So no, I do not agree with your premise that his "natural ability" is somehow a "game changer" when he plays well. You can fawn over his shot blocking all you want - the substance is not there. He routinely leaves his man for open layups on defense, takes horrible shots on offense, disappears completely for long stretches, and hasn't boxed a player out in his career at Wake. Even when he's playing "well" you're still getting that stuff packaged with it, and he's a liability.

Every time Ty has seen the floor for Wake up to this point it's been a net loss for the team. Don't see that changing next year, if he manages to stay on the team.

Well said. I completely agree

Ty's HS and AAU coaches did him a disservice by not teaching him any post moves. How the hell did they use him on offense?

IIRC, as some type of face-up wing player. I seriously think he spent much of his career before getting here just shooting jumpshots. Before he came on campus there were even reports of him shooting 3's in tournaments. :plos:

LOL

So much humor to reflect on in this highlight video. Threes abound from 0:54 on.
