Hard to defend the sport given this.

I didn't get to see the replay until early Monday, but I did not know the result. I know you can't do something like this in a nil-nil game for the Natty, but at some point in the second half I just wanted one of the seniors, playing his last game, to cold-cock #4. Then I wanted him to walk off the field without waiting for a red card, peace out the bench and keep walking. He'd of been my fucking hero.

Need to be able to have fast breaks and not have the off sides junk that soccer has. Very boring game to watch.

Soccer becomes less boring when you become more familiar with the types of sets, passes, and mistakes that lead to goals. There are lots of moments in an average match where an unfamiliar person is unaware and a soccer fan is excited.Need to be able to have fast breaks and not have the off sides junk that soccer has. If all you want to see is goals, then soccer isn't your sport. There are many tactical things done within a match which are interesting to the fan. It's the equivalent of watching a basketball team switch defenses or offensive sets. The casual basketball fan won't notice but the fan of the game appreciates what the team is trying to accomplish.
It's doesn't need defending. It's the most popular sport in the world, and there's not a close second.

This is true, but how odd that the national championship game in the highest level of US collegiate soccer of the most popular sport in the world played in the 4th largest city in the US couldn't draw more than @5k fans.
But soccer is the only sport that you don't have to score to win a championship. There is no rationale or excuse for this.
PKs were not part of soccer from the beginning.
P.S. As to the interest in soccer, even with millions of kids playing the game, each Final Four day had about 20% of the College Baseball World Series and an even smaller fraction of basketball and football championships. 20% may be very generous. There's no way there 5000 people at yesterday's game.
How odd that college soccer, in towns that love soccer and games not played during rush hour or during NFL games, draws exceedingly well? Really odd.
