Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

Exactly, how quickly everyone forgets Duke Lacrosse and throws tar at anyone daring to ask questions about anyone with a clean record accused of such horrible conduct.
Hoping it's a Geico commercial?

Not really if said employers are clients of the University and the University can direct his firing from both (which it can, make no mistake). Add to that the possible liability for the public and associated private statements, and there's a whole boatload of potential liability.

The Elrod story was mentioned on CNN here in Europe. I did not see the whole report but only the end. IIRC this is the first time Wake has made CNN's sports cast in Europe in maybe a decade.

I'm not sure this is true. At the end of the day, the AD is just a department at Wake.

Pretty sure you're right. The athletic department likely consults with the university's general counsel (and his staff) on this stuff. Don't remember a time where the department used outside counsel, and it doesn't have it's own in house legal staff

For those wondering about legal counsel advising the University, remember that he wasn't fired from two jobs by the University. He was fired by two separate independent employers, who have their own in-house counsel and retained law firms to advise them on how to proceed. They are the ones exposed to wrongful termination suits by Elrod, and you had better believe they made sure the evidence was collected properly and that it was on their side before they acted.

Which makes the AD's lies here even more tragic, until proven otherwise. So hell-bent on destruction for no apparent reason. No other way to read this. I'll wait.

Your assumption that employees have rights and that valid "wrongful termination" suits exist in NC is wrong. There are a lot of assumptions being made here. I am not defending Elrod. I don't know the facts. But before I disown somebody I want to know them.

Well to be fair, Verger Capital is owned in part by Wake Forest. I'm not sure how much they rely on Wake Forest's in-house counsel. It's just our endowment office that we spun off into a semi-separate entity

This. At least three different entities have investigated (or at least vetted Wake's investigation) internally. It's not *impossible* that they are mistaken, but surely it's very, very unlikely.

This is, as Clawson said, incomprehensible. It is clear Wake believes it has fully damning information, and I am 100 pct sure it was reviewed by counsel before Wellman and Clawson's statements were released. Even more damning is that the statements have indicated our investigation is over and it was just Elrod. They said they have texts and mails. Presumably IMG cooperated with our investigation and found stuff, or perhaps other schools provided such after we notified the ACC. It is unfathomable that we would lie about having these things in hand if we didn't. This is not a stripper's verbal account of what happened like at Duke. That being said, we have no reason to say more than we have, and I can certainly understand his friends having his back and, as Riley said, just hoping it isn't true. But more than that, threats of any kind against him have no place whatsoever, and definitely should not be tolerated. Hope Clawson told the players that as I'm sure there is a lot of anger in the locker room.

Anyway I'm not sure how this thread has devolved into a debate about the source of the department's legal advice, as that seems largely irrelevant

Yep. We ran a reverse and an end-around to the orbit WR who previously never received the ball on the orbit. Louisville threw both plays for a big loss. I said at the time when the play sheet was disclosed that it looked like Louisville knew those plays were coming.

The equipment manager found the plays before the game. That would mean our staff knew Louisville may have access to plays we hadn't run before and we ran them anyway.

Clawson has his radio show with Stan tonight. That should be interesting....

It's relevant in the context of the sidebar discussion suggesting Wake's athletic department is being reckless (or even disingenuous) in making these accusations public - there's been plenty of that in this thread.

What's the alternative? Install an entirely new playbook in less than a day?

Wrongful termination suits certainly exist. REDA claims and violations of public policy (which now have to be in federal court thanks to HB2).

Not that this would be a valid suit. I'm guessing I would not take that case.

Thanks for the information. I guess the trial that I testified in, which the terminated employee was successful in, was in fact all a dream. What a relief.

Why does donaldross keep comparing this to the Duke lacrosse scandal?

You can fire an employee in this state because they heard from a friend of a friend that the employee got a speeding ticket. Get real.
