Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

This looks awful for Elrod, but I'd sure like to see the evidence. The dude's career is toast.

I can see Wake giving other potentially involved schools a reasonable time - say until mid January to conduct their own investigations. If nothing seems to be happening, I could see Wake holding another press conference and naming names.

I hope that would be the case. Obviously, no other program is going to investigate this during bowl season and probably wouldn't announce until NSD. After that, all bets should be off.

This story is so freaking strong it's replaced Trump for a day as the moral outrage for the day. Fox, USA Today, NBC etc, etc. we are coast to coast baby.

I enjoy how donnieross went from saying if he was Tommy Boy's lawyer he would have him out in front of cameras STAT with his side of the story and then not 1 hour later said that Tommy Boy has to stay quiet.

It is that level of consistency that I value in a poster.

Well, how smart can one really be to continue to send money to the WFU AD year after year?

This is completely and utterly wrong. You are welcome to say what you want, but I have it on record from people who know how this process works that you are totally incorrect.

So when can we expect your next article?

This would be pretty hilarious actually.

I'm not writing an article about how Wake contracts and manages their legal counsels at the University.

Sounds like it was toast 3 years ago but he was being propped up by MSD.

Finebaum saying he barely even knew that Wake Forest existed. Pretty sweet hottakes by the talking heads all day about the relevance of our athletic program.

What a bald-headed dick! He's a SEC talking head and his radio show comes out of Charlotte and he barely knows Wake Forest??

I gotta say that Duke should be pretty clear of any possible involvement, as it seems since 2014 Wake has had arguably their best offensive games each season against the Blue Devils. Makes me feel a bit relieved, being a Duke fan.

I am kinda hoping Duke is involved in WakeyLeaks because fuck them

Of course, and you don't think Wellman is running that meeting? Hatch is a patsy, especially with regard to athletics. This is Ron's show from start to finish. And anyone who trusts him to take the correct action at this point given his history is a goddamn moron.

And I'm not saying that Elrod is innocent, he probably did it. But this is being released/spun this way by Wellman for particular reasons, you can be damn sure of that. Whether or not it blows up in his face has yet to be seen. What are the odds a "settlement for an undisclosed amount" will be reached with Elrod sometime in the next few years? I'd say over 50%.

What the heck are you talking about? This is a major legal issue. No one is making these decisions except the general counsel for the university (I looked him up, J. Reid Morgan, a double-Deacon). And there is no 'he probably did it' - with the way this went down and the statements they have made, they clearly have indisputable proof. Settlement? The only settlement would be him paying Wake but I doubt he is going to have any money to spare for a very long time.

Should this story be proven true, and recipients of this treachery be identified, what would be the proper restitution from the other schools to Wake? Should they have to forfeit any wins over Wake?

What punishment should be given to the coaches of the other teams involved? Should those coaches who participated be suspended? Fired? Fined? Have wins over Wake removed from their records? Lose scholarships and/or recruiting visits?

By the way, heard from a couple of people that actually know what they are talking about, and whatever 2and2 is spewing about Ron Wellman being involved with the choosing of lawyer is complete and utter BS. That goes way above his head and I doubt he was even included in most of the meetings that were discussing the legal side of things. I would ignore 2and2 on this issue entirely if you actually want to learn something remotely close to the truth instead of inane rambling.

Yeah, he's way off.

If there is definitive proof that a coach/grad asst/whoever on the other team paid/accepted the game plans from Wake Forest then they should be fired.

Vacating wins doesn't really mean anything but it looks like a real punishment.

That's pretty harsh. The guy was a one of our own and had recently lost a kid. I would expect the department to try to help him out if we could. Unfortunately he betrayed that loyalty that we showed him
