Pit Boss Beer Thread

Go to South Slope and hit some combo of Burial, Brahmari, Hi Wire, Twin Leaf, Wicked Weed, Funkatorium (if you like sours), Asheville Brewing, Catawba. All within a few blocks of each other.

I'd love to go to the Funkatorium but nobody else likes sours. How far away is Sierra Nevada from these?

Cool. Would you records you recommend making the drive to it from South Slope?

I mean it's really cool but it's also pretty neat to just have all those great breweries within a couple minutes' walk of each other

Had Founders Lizard of Koz last night at State of Beer. Mindblowingly good! Stout with blueberries, chocolate, and vanilla, aged in Bourbon barrels. 10.5% ABV. Would take this over KBS every day and twice on Sundays.

Had a pretty solid selection of beers this weekend

Made it to Gibbs for the first time in a while and their Crucible imperial stout and Monkeysphere american IPA were both tasty - in addition to the delicious as usual GPA.

Also had:
Howard Brewing Mistletoe - barrel aged raspberry porter - very good, especially considering the $9 price point
Prarie Christmas Bomb - wow
The Bruery - So happens it's tuesday - really good

Most disappointing - had a can of Hop Drop canned recently and it was TERRIBLE. Tasted like they left the cleaner from some of the brewing process in the pots when they brewed it. Had several other people confirm how terrible it was. This is the 2nd time out of my last 3 purchases of hop drop which was not up to standard. I'm not sure I'll be buying hop drop anymore.

Prairie Bomb!

Insane Rush is a great IPA from Niwot
Jubilation is my favorite holiday beer
The cream ale is a lie it tastes like an IPA

The Jolly Russian was really fucking good; Russian Imperial Stout aged in Rum Barrels.

I've had isolation ale (delicious!) and Cutthroat Porter (delicious!) before. Pretty stoked about finishing these brews out this week.

Whoa -- I was pumped to try this but thought it was way overly and cloyingly sweet, almost to the point it was undrinkable, and I like a sweet stout. Going to try to age the other bottle I bought for ahwile, but I could not have been more disappointed.

Oh, it is definitely sweet and I could not drink more than a 10 oz pour at a time, but I consider it a great dessert beer.

Had Destihl Dosvidanya at Bottle Rev3 last night. Excellent Russian Imperial Stout.

Lizard of Koz was great and definitely dessert beer - more fruit than stout. Shooshmoo - Have you had Lindley Park by Olde Hickory? I'd put it in the same category as LoK

Peach - good description, but I'd disagree with saying it's better than KBS (but it's been a while since I had KBS).

Blaphemy alert....

I've been disappointed with the last 2 years of KBS. I mean, it's good, but it's more of a product of hype and scarcity (a la Hopslam) than it is actual good taste. I can think of at least a half dozen barrel aged stouts I'd prefer. Wicked Weed Dark Age (to me) is much better without the hype and difficulty to obtain.
