Danny Manning Credibility Watch

Wake will be the only team that will be able to say they played more games away from home than at home. That is unheard of for a major conference team & should carry some weight if you are dissecting the 7-11 ACC teams.

Here are the teams we've lost to, by current KP ranking (Wake is #36):

#2 Villanova (18-1)
#5 UVA (14-3)
#6 UNC (17-3)
#18 FSU (17-2)
#25 Xavier (13-5)
#30 Clemson (11-6)
#31 Northwestern (15-4)

Our best win: #34 Miami-FL (12-5)

And for what it's worth, by RPI (Wake is #24):

#1 Villanova (18-1)
#9 FSU (17-2)
#10 UNC (17-3)
#16 UVA (14-3)
#21 Xavier (13-5)
#39 Northwestern (15-4)
#42 Clemson (11-6)

Our best win: #57 Charleston (14-4)

Nw and Clemson are gonna hurt. Those are two we should have won.

We just need to win a few of them. Until we show otherwise, the Deacs are not a safe bet on the road in the ACC, unless it's in Massachusetts.

Clemson is the only game that has me shaking my head. Any other win and we would be ahead of what most expect given our schedule the rest of the way.

Free throw shooting is huge. Devin and CMM were awful. If they were both 80%we would've won a lot more games.

Last night the rotations were good. Defensively we still make stupid mistakes like putting them in the line with a lead. Stupid stupid. Can't win at high levels doing that.

We panicked again last night but DM reacted quickly. Maybe he is getting better.

Wish we would've gotten Reed

People talk about freshman players getting better. Just makes me roll my eyes when we have to talk about our head coach "getting better" as his 3rd season in charge rolls on.

Wellman is a total piece of shit for doing this to our program. What a waste of a decade.

Wake's highest win percentage against Northwestern at any point of the game was 59.8% (up 40-36 with 13:57 left in the game) and we were only favored to win the game at any point for a total of roughly five game minutes.

Not going to say we should've won that one.

Both teams sucked so much baboon red asshole that game. It was putrid basketball.

Was Tony Bennett a good hire at UVA? Answer that question as if it's the end of year 3 for him.

Assumed some risk, but Bennett had 3 years HC experience including a power conference coach of the year award plus multiple national coach of the year awards to his name.

Also, stop using superior coaches to prop up our own. It's pathetic.

If he's vastly superior then his first three years at UVA should also be vastly superior, especially since he was more polished coming in, correct?

We are now among the "Last Four in" and a #11 seed.

For the following question just assume that we finish with a resume that would give us either an #11 or #12 seed in the NCAA Tourney, but we do not play one of those "1st Round/Play-In Games" that are played before the "Real 1st Rd" starts on Thursday. On the other hand, if we were to go to the NIT we would either be a #1 or #2 seed. Which do you think is more important for the program?

I understand the value in going back to the NCAA Tourney and being on the national stage after a prolonged absence; as well as, how it can help future recruiting. On the other hand, I would place more value on this core of players, including Manning, learning how to win post season games in the NIT rather than going to the NCAA Tourney and losing in the 1st round. We have to learn how to walk before we can run, and since we haven't won a conference road game or an ACC Tourney game under Manning I believe winning actual post-season games in the NIT would be more beneficial for the long term success of the program going forward. Also, if Wake can get a #1 or #2 seed in the NIT, then that could give them 2-3 possible home games. Finally, remember that the NIT isn't like what it use to be 15-20 years ago, there are a lot more quality teams in the NIT than in the past.

Not going to say we should've won that one.

In game percentages to win are useful for people who have never played or coached the game.

Not correct. Simplistic, in fact.

Care to explain? I would think a coach better than Manning, taking over a situation better than Manning, would easily outperform Manning over a similar time period.

And if we want our program to reach a certain level, we should probably compare our coach to coaches who have reached that level after taking over somewhat similar situations.

Comparing Manning to Bennett seems like a reasonable way of measuring his progress. How would you measure his progress?

Except you can't. Bennett inherited multiple 4* players and I believe 2 NBA players on his roster. The previous left him a strong recruiting class coming in.

DAnny was given a dumpster fire and an asshole AD.

You can't compare these two. Well, if you are trying to be fair you can't.
