Deac94's 2nd Annual National Signing Day Extravaganza

Before I started researching info for the OP, I hadn't realized that Wake has three members of MaxPrep's Small School All- America team. Thought that was interesting.

Good analysis as always, 94. Just curious: why did you not include Duke in your ACC peer comparison?

Because I don't consider them to be a peer anymore in recruiting. Even though their 2017 class was a step back from 2016, they still landed 10 recruits rated 5.6 or higher. 8 commits in the top 600 on RankByOffers. Took only 3 two-stars.

My impression was that they took some guys away from Wake this cycle. At least ones that Wake would have had a good shot at. I didn't have the same impression in the 2016 class. Wake needs to close the gap on Duke. I think they will.

I believe our class would have a lot more fanfare if the quarterback from Arkansas (name omitted on purpose) had stayed with us.

Well known in recruiting circles is that Ole Miss is about to get hammered with NCAA penalties, and that has been used to negatively recruit against them.

Great analysis 94. Stars and rankings are great but once you get outside the top 20 or so its what coaches do with the players. Some schools can recruit like crazy yet never do anything with the talent. I tend to think Clawson & Co can teach and make a guy better than when he arrived.

Wow, have not been following this class as much as in year's past. The stats/rankings listed in the first post appear to be pretty concerning. Why is recruiting regressing in Clawson's third class?

One note on the metrics. I'm definitely not out to portray the class as good or bad. I've posted these same measures three years in a row. Trying to come up with something more sophisticated than Rivals class ranking, which I loathe. How each class is viewed is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks 94! Can't wait to see what you have in store for the class of '18

The Powell and Showell decommits cost us two 5.6s on Rivals. Powell would have been my #2 headliner (just below Allen).

The two real questions are:

1. How much talent did we get?
2. Did we get anyone who can help fill our holes for next year?

let's be sure to break this down into 40 more posts about stars vs heart

Thanks. That explains it. I just read about a guy they lost to MD.

I look forward to it! I'd like to find a way to keep the recruiting thread relevant now that both Mike and Les are producing quality original content on their websites. I highly encourage subscriptions at one or both. But I'd also like us to continue to have good, quality discussion in that thread. If I can help with that, it's great.
