OK Pit denizens,

I'm going to be spending a week in Raleigh next week for a meeting. I need some recomendations on good beer (microbrewery preferred) and food places preferably near the convention center. I'll be with some people who are seriously into local/microbrewery beers.

Also would like some thoughts about decent restaurants. May need to feed some people who like good local restaurants.

Ooofffff Raleigh sucks brah. They super check for peens and lady peens before they let you pee. Have you seen handmaids tail on hulu? That's raleigh.

CLT or gtfo.

I got you on food. What are you looking for?

Perhaps something with a little "southern" flair.

Also, any good NC style BBQ within walking distance.

Good, quick breakfast place that isn't Starbucks.

Bids Minda (Laoatian) and Sitti (Lebanese) are good on-southern spots within walking distance.

Bida Manda is outstanding. Need reservations in advance. Pooles, Crawford and Son, and Death and Taxes if you wanna drop a lot of cash. 42nd street is good seafood.

Whisky Kitchen is a lot of fun, very reasonably priced and very good food, and awesome drinks. If I was taking someone out in raleigh who was visiting, it would be high on my list.

Somehow I failed to mention Stanbury, which is probably my favorite restaurant in Raleigh. Reservations are needed. It's away from the convention center, but an uber will be like $4

I live in Raleigh and highly recommend Raleigh Beer Garden - 350 beers on tap and 1.5 miles from convention center. Great bar in a cool area.

Sorry to be hating but CLT is a bland city with no character to it. The Triangle is where it's at, though Chapel Hill is highly overrated.

Stanbury -- best restaurant in Raleigh. Go later and sit at the bar (or else you will need a reservation). I would recommend going with small plates, the menu changes but their bone marrow is always on point.

Good recs already. I'll add Brewery Bhavana. It's a brewery/library/restaurant and it is excellent.

And for beer, I'll second Raleigh Beer Garden. They couldn't possibly exhaust all their beer options there. First floor is all NC crafts, second floor is all outside NC, and the roof is a rotating selection. Also you can get 5 oz pours if everything so you can try more without having to get pint glasses of everything.

interestingly i hated whisky kitchen....thought the food was awful and the scene was geared to 20 something hipsters. loud as hell, impossible to talk to dining mates. also their whiskey selection did not live up to name.

Crank Arm and Trophy Brewing are very close to convention center. The Pit seems to be the place to take guests but I've never been blown away with the food esp. at their price. Any of the Ashley Christensen restaurants will do downtown. Have not been to Clyde Coopers since it moved but its more authentic than the Pit.

also, the best burger downtown with the possible exception of chuck's which i have not been to yet is Bad Daddy's at Seaboard. A little bit of a walk from convention center area but man their burgers are fantastic. also the sweet potato fries.

I'm always leery of a place with that many taps. Other than the really hot seasonal stuff, no way they're rotating through those kegs fast enough.

agree though i believe most of the kegs they use are minis (maybe 1/8th)?

I'll second Bida Manda, Sitti, and Clyde Coopers. Try to beat the wait at Bida Manda by going at lunch (althought the menu is smaller, its still good). Otherwise, there is definitely a line.

One thing that sucks about Raleigh Beer Garden is that the tap lines are segregated, so if one person in your party wants NC beers, another wants liquor, and another wants Anerican craft beers (not necessarily NC), you would have to pay at three different places. I'd recommend State of Beer and Stags Head (same area as RBC) if you want a smaller bar that doubles as a bottle shop, Village Draft House or Raleigh Times if you want a sports-ish bar with a larger beer list (and larger food menu, though I can vouch for the ghost pepper salami sandwich at State of Beer).

Trophy is a great brewery that as of a week or so ago has three locations. The one on Morgan Street also does pizza (if you like spicy, get the Daredevil), another location does fried chicken, and there is a third towards the farmers market. Bond brothers is a good brewery that recently opened downtown.

Suprised to hear that about Whisky Kitchen. I've been 3 times. The fish dip, lamb burger, and BBQ chicken have all been good, but the chicken pot pie was outstanding. Drinks were done well. I do agree it's loud.

I hate to say it, but the pit is better bbq than Coopers, and way more fun.

Foundation, Dram and Draught, Beer Garden, the Station are the bars I would go to.
