Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

10 games in the hex

5 unacceptable performances

lots of guys in white tonight standing around

worried about how things were going in Panama I suppose

Meh. Just give it another decade until American football as we know it is dead at the youth and high school levels. Then a decade after that to develop all that athletic talent transitioning over. By the time I'm 60, the US may have a realistic shot at a World Cup.

Looking at the current roster I'm not sure how many of the guys are going to be on the roster in 2022.

Pulisic, Wood, Yedlin, Brooks and any of the MLS youths who can escape. This is pushing me towards being anti-MLS.

That being said WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT LINEUP. TNT was going to play night and day differently than Panama, and Bruce knew that. That lineup is great at countering. With the pitch and their lineup, Bruce should have known that was never going to work.

I've been hearing this since the 80's.

We went to two World Cups under Obama.

I think MLS is benefiting other CONCACAF teams more than it is the USMNT.

THE ONE THING I tell every team I've ever coached is a simple, simple concept. And one that I've heard in some variation from quality coaches I've had the pleasure and honor of talking to through my years, including Jay Vidovich.

That one thing...

"What is the one thing we can always control? No matter the condition of the field. No matter the referee. No matter the fans. No matter the other team. No matter what they are trying to do. No matter our tactics. No matter if I got it wrong as the coach. What is the ONE THING we can always control?

"Some days we will be the more talented team. Some days our opposition will be the more talented team. Some days we will be on pretty equal footing.

"We, as a team, can always control our work rate. As players you know how hard you can push yourselves. You know how much will to give to win more 50-50s than you lose. To win more of those 2nd balls than we let the other team possess. You know what it means to work hard. And working hard every time you cross that white line is the only thing you have full control over. Each. And. Every. Time.

"Never walk off the pitch knowing you could have given more, because sometimes when you do that, you've lost. And that is the worst feeling you'll ever feel. Not because you lost. But because you let your teammates down. You let your brothers down. Never walk off the pitch knowing you could have given more. Always out work the guy across from you. Want it more. Not for yourself but for your teammate."

Tonight we saw a collection of players that didn't care enough and thought it was in the bag because they were more talented than the opposition. Work rate matters. Work rate erases technical ability in a flash. Work rate makes bad tactical decisions by coaches look brilliant.

The US players had abysmal work rate tonight. Zero interest. Zero motivation. And, now, zero World Cup matches to play next summer.

We got what we deserved and it makes me sick to my stomach.

I wonder how those hotshot Euro teams would have done tonight in T&T

they would have won the fucking game, Bruce

What a complete douche to even comment on it. He set the tone by putting excuses in his teams head. Any coach worth of shit would have downplayed it knowing both teams were playing on the same field. He can wipe his ass with that bogus ass letter from Friday.

The US gifted other teams (Honduras and Mexico) WC appearances the last two times. Not surprised the favor was not returned.

We had to fuck around and get Mexico in last time. Fucking Zusi

Serious question - does Bruce eat unwiped ass like redacted?

The super shitty thing is this is just going to push us further behind for 2022. Now the few guys who might be on that squad have nothing to play for.

Hopefully the borderline guys...hell, the guys everywhere up and down the system realize this is their chance to shake things up and make their presence known. We need new blood and we need it now.

They literally play for stuff week in and week out for their clubs.

I just don't get this level of thinking from you and a few others. These aren't amateurs that don't play soccer outside the US.

They assclowns that failed this go around aren't going to stop play competitive soccer anytime soon...aside from a few, of course.
