Yeah, I'm sure there were no posts talking about how Giles should stay home and go to Wake instead of going to Duke. You're definitely completely right.
 
This was probably already mentioned, but the Dinger is from Pekin, Illinois and his high school mascot was the Chinks. Needless to say it has been changed.

If Manning loses this kid to a school with no real mascot I’m gonna go ballistic.
 
I think you mean their recruiting pitches are contradictory, not hypocritical, but recruiting pitches change for each recruit. Every school tries to sell the local recruits on staying home and every non-local school has to try to lessen the location factor and advance other factors.

Also, Biff's post raises a valid point in that WF is not trying to get Ayo to leave his home, but rather not go to a closer school (2.5 hrs away) so this whole discussion is kinda off base anyways.

One of you Twitter people let Ayo know that Illinois has no actual mascot, just a concept of a mascot.

An old boss of mine was from Peoria and told me that same story, as I guess they were in his conference. He said they even had a mascot (this was in the 70s I guess) that had a ridiculously exaggerated head with slanted eyes, buckteeth, etc. It sounds like it will be really tough to do something more in-PC than that. And I believe it is pronounced Pee-ken.
