BUMP!

Anymore info leaking to our resident insiders?

Be nice to hear some good stuff on Chaundeac or Olivier.

Who's gonna livestream the Queens game on their phone to youtube??
I seem to remember last year's exhibition was streamed by WF Sports using the in-house cameras. Maybe WF has something like that planned already or can be convinced to do it if people request it.

The scrimmage was divided into two 16-minute periods, and three four-minute situational overtimes. The Terps started the first overtime up four points, the second down four and the last overtime period was just for walk-ons.

The game was dead even at 23 after the first, but Maryland used a 33-point period to finish the second half up four. The Terps then won the first overtime, 10-8, lost the second, 8-4, and won the battle of the walk-ons, 8-5, to secure the win for the day.

Maryland won the rebounding battle 49-47, and Sean Obi was a boost off the bench, though his statline doesn’t necessarily show it. Obi finished with just one point, but five rebounds and three assists in his 15 minutes. Meanwhile, Justin Jackson had a rough 38 minutes en route to just two points, going 1-of-5 from the field with an 0-for-4 performance behind the arc.

Bryant Crawford led the way for Wake Forest with 17 points, and Doral Moore registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Moore has big shoes to fill for the Demon Deacons, who have to replace the production of double-double machine and 2017 first round pick John Collins.

If these rebounding stats are anywhere near accurate, perhaps we won't be as deficient on the glass as many fear this year. And it looks like our perimeter D wasn't horrid as evidenced by some of the terrible shooting % by certain Terps. ;-)

I looked into Queens a bit this morning and this game will likely be tougher than anybody expects.

They are ranked 2nd in the nation in D2 and made the Sweet 16 last year. They beat VCU in an exhibition game last season and VCU finished top 50 in KenPom and made the NCAA Tournament. Not only that, but Queens returns 4 starters and 10 players overall.

I think the height will be an issue for them (tallest player who plays is 6-9), but this isn't a "run-of-the-mill" exhibition game that we will win by 50 points. It should be another good indicator of where the team is at this point and get us prepared for a Georgia Southern team who is close to top 100 in the KenPom pre-season rankings as well.

Agree, these guys will be a tough test for us and we have to play well and smart to win. To emphasize the point, Ferris St is also in Div II and ranked #9th as opposed to Queens #2 and FS only lost to Mich St. by 8 I believe

Georgia Southern will be a stern test for an opening game. They have a duo that can fill it up. Crawford vs Tookie Brown should be a fun battle to watch.

Hey y'all. Longtime reader, first time poster here. Since we're talking preseason, I have an extra ticket to the exhibition game (section 124). Free. Message me if you want it.

Was it your son's ticket?

Too soon?

I can't believe we have zero commentary on the game against Maryland from anything other than a Maryland blog.

I realize it was a secret scrimmage, but the Maryland dude was throwing out actual statistics. We don't even know who played aside from Crawford and Moore.

Trent van horn came back and played 20 minutes

ESPN ranked Bryant Crawford as the 10th best point guard prospect in the NCAA:

10. Bryant Crawford
Wake Forest
Age: 20.6
PG

Height: 6-foot-3 | Wingspan: 6-7

Crawford has flown a bit under the radar while posting impressive numbers in arguably the toughest conference in the country. Crawford was one of only two guards in the ACC last season to average at least 15 points and 5 assists per game while shooting at least 50 percent from 2 and 30 percent from 3. The other? Dallas Mavericks explosive rookie Dennis Smith Jr. Crawford's game and NBA upside haven't always matched his productivity, however.

He's not quite great in one area as he's a streaky shooter, a straight-line athlete with limited wiggle and isn't an extraordinary playmaker to boot. Crawford does check a few boxes as he can make pull-ups, straight-line drive, be a playmaker in space and defend when motivated. But he doesn't yet possess an elite NBA skill. Crawford does have the physical profile of an NBA guard at 6-3, 200 pounds with a 6-7 wingspan, which could make him an intriguing option if he continues to develop skill wise. Wake Forest has added some nice young pieces, but Crawford will have to adjust to life without John Collins, whose hard rim runs and explosive lob finishes were the source of the bulk of Crawford's assists.

DraftExpress Database stat: 20.4 points and 6.9 assists per 40 minutes

That's a good scouting report on Crawford. He really needs to work on his explosiveness and finishing.

6'3" straight line athlete with limited wiggle and isn't an extraordinary playmaker and streaky...

Is he interested in playing outside receiver? Certainly checks all the right boxes

If Quinn Cook can find a spot on a NBA roster, Crawford most certainly can.

Crawford's elite skill is missing potential highlight dunks in traffic.

I do like his ambition though, and bet he connects on a few more this year. I'm really excited for this team. If the reports about Doral hold up, combined with an elite backcourt, it should be fun.

As relatively minor as this seems to be, I think if he nails those dunks and cuts out some of the untimely turnovers and just head-scratching plays, he's going to show up on a lot more highlights, we'll have a few more wins, and he's going to get NBA buzz.
