2017 College Football Coaching Carousel

Was talking about this last night with my FSU buddy and he thinks they turn to Taggert, Pruitt or Frost. Pruitt makes the most sense to me out of that list and would be a really good hire IMO.

Sumlin also has some pretty good news relative to his buyout.

1) It's due in 60 days, 2) It's $10.4MM and 3) Most importantly, there is NO OFFSET language so if takes another coaching job he still gets all the money. This is a pretty atypical situation, so good for him. He is basically going to be making way more money NOT coaching A&M than if he were to fulfill the contract.

Would Taggert leave Oregon after one season? Oregon is a pretty good job I think, facilities and resources, recent history of being a national power and maybe an easier road to the playoffs out of the PAC-10? Of course I know he made his name at USF, so he has ties to the area.

He's from FL as well.

I'm calling Sumlin to UCF after Frost leaves for Nebraska.

Tennessee fans online went from "Kiffin as a backup option if Gruden and Peterson say no" to "please God call Kiffin right now, why haven't we called him yet???"

Have heard that some think Sumlin is headed to Arizona State.

Oregon is not the type of program that would sign a coach, and then have him leave the next year. Would think Taggart to FSU (or UF) would only happen if he has specific clause allowing Taggart to go to FSU (or UF). Jimbo flirted with LSU; only to stay at FSU after the Noles sweetened the pot; not sure if FSU will be as apt to sweeten the pot after a 5-6 season, but in the end, wouldn't be shocked to see Jimbo decide to stay in Tallahassee.

Tennessee is such a clown show. Most of the dopes in the fanbase sought to use the "Sandusky" connection to torpedo the Schiano hiring, thinking they were entitled to a better coach. Schiano built Rutgers (who returned to their irrelevant role after he left) to a bowl and top 25 regular (6 bowls in their last 7 years). TN is, at best, the 5th (and probably closer to 7th or 8th) best program in the SEC. The TN fanbase is as responsible for the state of the program as anything else.

Best i've heard about Jimbo is that FSU is tired of his dog and pony show of going back every season asking for more and that they are going to call his bluff on going somewhere else for greener pasture$. FSU is a much better gig than A&M in my opinion, with the only reason Jimbo may be thinking of bolting is Texa$ with an emphasis on the $$. This off season has been crazy already.

Here in Knoxville I have a front row seat to the comedy. I think you need to factor in the bible belt, conservative, reactionary composition of the fan base in their horror with Schiano. There is very real moral outrage with the Penn State thing not that they don't think they could get Saben if they tried.

I don't know. If Jon Gruden had the same Penn State connections as Schiano, I don't think it would matter near as much.

Meh. Tennessee went for Trump. Alabama is going to vote for Moore. Tennessee fans would be fine with a pedophile coach if they thought he could win a championship.

Easy to say. but with everyone I know a UT fan the association with Joe Pa leaves many cold. As an atheist i find the shifting values and contradictory judgments of the christian right never to make sense especially with the element of homophobia thrown in - morality may not be right word- but a large part of the fan base is reviled by his PSU connection different board- it adds the absurdity and delusions you find in many fan bases.
