Omnibus Bowl Projections Thread - Belk Bowl

Probably came up already, but which random team out there gets left out of a bowl since there's one more eligible team than spots?

ETA: And FSU winning this week would make at least two

I'd think ULM is one if they win. Mostly because they aren't really being considered at all a week before invitations go out.

Someone out of the MAC? They have 7 bowl eligible teams, two at 6-6, , with only 4 For sure tie ins, with a 5th in Detroit, which is conditional if ACC or Big 10 can't fill spot. Duke winning, FSU winning, and potential for Big 10 to get left out of playoff (If 1 loss Bama gets in over 2 loss OSU) probably ruined that.

Conference USA has 10 bowl eligible teams and only 6 tie ins. 4 at 6 wins. UTSA only team under .500 in conference, So they would be on chopping block I'd imagine. Both MAC 6-6 teams were .500 in conference.

Guess: UTSA and Western Michigan (losers of last 2) left out over Buffalo, who has won their last 3

You mean overall in college football numbers or in the ACC? The ACC will have a spot for everyone thanks to a conditional agreement with the Birmingham Bowl

Does an explanation really need to be put forward as to why the Belk Bowl isn't interested in having a Sun Belt team as one of the representatives, even if it is a local team in App State and especially if the ACC school is Wake - who App already played?

Bowls avoid rematches if at all possible.

Wake in the Belk Bowl vs Kentucky or Missouri would be my guess. The SEC likes to "usually" send their East team to this area and send the West teams to the Cotton or Music City bowls. We shall see here soon.

Wake makes sense for the Belk Bowl in another way. We won't cry if we get to play a non-SEC team, like NCSU did last year going to Shreveport. C-USA has ten eligible teams and six slots. The Big 12 has an extra team, too.

Really ? You want to play WKU in a bowl game an hour and fifteen minutes from campus ?

The Cotton Bowl is no longer an SEC tie-in. The Music City Bowl would much rather have an SEC East team than an SEC West team, for the most part (I'm assuming you meant to write "Liberty Bowl" instead).

Who from the N&O will take over as State beat writer?

The guy who was currently covering Duke, Stephen Wiseman. He's already stepped in it and pissed all the State fans off by dropping a "the team I now cover" instead of just typing the schools name out in a tweet during one of the bball games he was covering. Almost universally NCSU fans don't want him and would rather keep Joe but it is what it is. Andrew Carter is leaving the UNC beat and joining Dane Kane on the investigative team, Giglio is going to UNC beat, Wiseman to NCSU, and I honestly don't know who is taking over the Duke beat. Odd all the way around honestly but I don't know how newspapers work/run their business.

Probably. I was thinking about the year Johnny Manziel played in it I guess. [back in 2013 against Oklahoma]]. Now they are part of the New Year's Six.

Wiseman's tweet was terrible. Dude seems like a typical N&O sports guy with his nose squarely up Duke's butt. Have fun Pack fans!

The article that I linked above says that the Liberty Bowl has a conditional secondary agreement with the AAC to take a team from that conference if its primary conferences don't fill their slots. My assumption is that the Belk Bowl does not have any similar agreements, and would therefore be able to pursue any available teams in an effort to maximize TV ratings and ticket sales. Does anyone know if that is correct?

Will you go to El Paso to see us play a PAC-12 team? How about Shreveport or Detroit? I'm surprised that the Military Bowl last year spoiled you.The only C-USA I can see putting fans in the seats at Charlotte might be Marshall. The Belk folks will get us a better opponent. We'll have a larger turnout at the Belk Bowl then Detroit, Shreveport, or El Paso.

The appeal of the Belk Bowl is you're playing an SEC opponent close to home after a decent season. I would think twice about rearranging my holiday plans to go see Wake play a MAC team.

Stewart Mandel (who moved over to The Athletic) projects what might be a worst case scenario for Wake: ND falls to the Camping World Bowl, NC State gets pushed to the Belk Bowl

CFP – Clemson
Orange – Miami
Citrus – No ACC or ND
Camping World – Notre Dame
Taxslayer – Virginia Tech
Sun – Louisville
Pinstripe – Boston College
Belk – NC State
Military – Virginia
Independence – FSU
Quick Lane – Wake Forest (versus a MAC team)

On the SEC side, he projects that the Liberty Bowl will get shortchanged and Mizzou will head east to play in the Belk Bowl.

Really sucks that we didn't show up last weekend at home against a bad dook team with a losing record and pissed away a decent bowl bid.... and just a week after having beaten a good ranked team. :tard:

Clawson had said that there would be no let down. He was wrong.

The difference between Duke and state is not nearly that great.

Duke is not bad, not sure why anyone would think Saturday wasn't a case of 2 pretty evenly matched teams and one had more to play for than the other. We were a little fat and happy with ourselves after the last couple of weeks and we paid for it, pretty simple really.
