Biggest Reform EVER passed thread

They never took my insurance information, so it had nothing to do with my insurance. You can't force people to take HMO's. I paid for it the same day. To be fair it might have been $270 or so.

They didn't take your insurance information at an Urgent Care?

All joking aside, that's a remarkable price for what you had done. Kudos for catching a break, not everybody is that lucky and needs more medical attention. Hence why health insurance is so damn important in the first place.

There is no way that you only paid $200 total for them to fix your broken leg, or if you did, it was pretty much a perfect example of why you have health insurance.

I broke two ribs in 2015, went to Urgent Care, and then went to the ER the next day because I had internal bleeding.

I have a catastrophic plan, so I paid my deductible up to $7,150 and then 20% of the remainder of the bill of $21K.

Isn't the bigger issue that due to some massive failure in the system, someone is able to charge $21,000 for what seems like a partial days work?

I have a $0 deductible plan so wouldn't have been billed the same day had they used my insurance. They asked if I had insurance, then asked if it was an HMO or PPO. Most the good places in CA don't take HMO prices, and I found the place based on its reviews.

My friend went in for a hip replacement. He was in the hospital for about a day. Not including the surgeon or anaesthesiologist, his bill was $54,000.

Shoulda just flown to Spain and gotten one for $7k

Also a good follow-up by District.

I was in the ER for approximately 8 hours, so it was a full day for most of them. There was a staff change halfway through as well since it was from 12-8.

The doctors visit 10-20 minutes with nurse taking vitals should be around 150 dollars, the x-ray itself and a simple read by a non radiologist would be like 80 dollars so easy to see if that was the only thing done it was 270. As soon as you walk into an ER the entire pricing will change and is the reason why less complex things are being encouraged to go to urgent care for price and to free the system. Now if they really did an ultrasound, and they would be doing it mostly out of precaution so there is no arterial damage you are looking at more the 300-400 dollar price range there. Also if they actually treated the injury, walking or hard cast you are looking at like 200 dollars there. So walk in someone tell you your leg is broken and walk out sure 270, precautionary and more expert care 600, and finally care and treatment 800-1000 dollars.

Definitely Obama's fault...

"Bush’s signature legislative act, the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA), gradually weakened the estate tax over a ten-year window that started in 2001 and repealed it in full for the year 2010, only then to bring it back, at pre-EGTRRA levels, in 2011."

Yeah, that was a sunset provision designed to force the feds to review the credit amounts and take action in 2009 so as not to lose out on that year's revenue. But, despite almost daily reminders from the tax bar, Obama was Obama and didn't do shit until 2011 or 2012 because he was apparently too preoccupied with cratering the nation's health insurance industry. Steinbrenner died in 2010, so his estate escaped taxation. As usual, thanks Obama.

In actuality the doc was just having fun saying "I love my job" and gave me the free ultrasound. It wasn't "necessary" because my knee seemed stable enough he didn't think I tore any ligaments, but did the ultrasound for his own amusement. Since it was a non displaced fibula fracture, he just recommended a brace, and after about 5 days of crutches I said fuck it and just started limping on it, as I couldn't do any more damage. Total cost was $219.

What's so shitty about it? Sounds like all of those real estate developers in REAL America just got exactly what they needed...

Complete stooges. And Pubs rip on Dems for taking advantage of their base

lol I love a good 2&2 anti-Obama hot take.

I can't imagine why a Democratic president would want to let a Republican-passed tax cut expire by its own terms rather than lead the charge to raise taxes.

So palma's analysis of health care in America is based on a minor injury that didn't actually require treatment and a doctor who likes to give away expensive treatments for free. #anecdotes
