Props to Wolford

Missed Clemson game and injured during FSU and Duke.

Aside from that, his performance and numbers this year best I have seen by a Wake QB.

Wish he could have squeezed in a rushing TD today to go along with 4 TD passes and 468 yards of total offense.

Incredible all season.

Smartest move Clawson made was naming Hinton the starter in the spring. Loved hearing about it how angry John was and how hard he worked. That’s a true leader.

It’s how he channeled that anger. Some guys would sulk or even transfer, John just worked hard and proved he should be the guy. There were a lot on this board who were all in on Hinton being the guy too, me included.

Another thing about Wolford's game that hasn't really been mentioned and that won't show up in the stats is that I'd say fully half of the interceptions he's been credited with were the fault of the receiver. Even in his early years.

Yes. There were several that should have been caught that went off the receiver's hands and got picked off.

Speaking of receivers, I am impressed with how far Washington has come just over the course of this season. He made, perhaps, the catch of the season yesterday.

Can’t express how proud I am of our team and coaches. Think John has to be high on the list of great Deacs for perseverance and dedication. When I stated to type perseverance it started to say preservation which also fits. He stayed alive long enough for all the pieces to come together. I hope his hometown team or my lowly Giants will give him a look. I’d almost rather he didn’t get drafted so he could pick his spot. He is so smart he’d know the right one for him. Thanks to John, you made Deacon nation come alive and as the trainer said in Secretariat we got to see something we ain’t ever seen before!

I advocated Hinton to start the year until I saw Wolford’s stats preseason. I also had said years prior that Hinton needed to start because of our oline but wolford should start if our oline could block for him. This year, the beef boys blocked everything and wolford was the man. Great career and great Deac!

He couldn’t catch a cold last year, he was so much improved this year, is a real weapon for us.

I take credit for his change. On a game thread earlier this season I criticized him explicitly for dropping a pass "as usual", comparing him unfavorably to a former also-ran WR. Next series he made a great catch for a TD and that seemed to be a turning point in his season. Seems he never looked back. Maybe I should call out more players, huh???!!! (j/k obviously)

Just watched McSorley and Penn State beat Washington in the Fiesta Bowl and a few things went through my mind:

1. Imagine if Wolford had chosen Penn State instead of Wake?
2. I'd take John in a heartbeat over McSorley, and if McSorley had the year Wolford did, he'd have been in the Heisman discussion
3. Cam Serigne played his entire HS and college careers (and youth football I believe, too) catching passes from the two QBs above. Amazing.

Wish I had some unique insight on Wolford to share, but let this suffice: thanks for all the great memories. You and Coach Claw have led the effort to get our program back to relevance! I have been amazed at how you picked yourself up after all the hits. You make us all proud.

McSorley comes across as a jackass.

I hope he is given an opportunity to spend 10 minutes alone with Elrod. I will pray to my God for this. And in a just world, Elrod would have to endure every hit Wolford took in his first 2 3/4 years, and he would have to endure those on about 30 consecutive days (30 games on consecutive days). Too bad the world is unjust.

"F*ck you Tommy Elrod, you worthless POS" would have been a great thread post Belk Bowl. I thought of it, but it is probably better that I promptly forgot.

Talked to an ECU guy at church yesterday who reminded me that 4 years ago he told me that Wolford was a late Pirate decommit, and what a major blow to their program it was at the time. Anyone remember the details of the flip , and were we as excited at the time as ECU was (according to my guy)deflated?
