We need to discuss this. Something must be done. We have possibly the best in this business at his craft, Stan Cotten, as our PBP guy. He's amazing.

Larry Sorenson, OTOH, is abysmal. The worst. Repeats the same garbage over and over. Vapid. I had to listen to the first three quarters of the Belk Bowl via radio, and Sorenson repeated the same lines over and over. No insight, general platitudes about playing hard and having a short memory on defense, blah blah blah.

With all of the great players we've had here, we can't get a local guy who knows football? THANKS RON

Who was the older guy, gravely voice, that did color in the late Grobe years? He was good, spoke his mind, added analytical insight, not always flowery? (may have cost him) --

Bill Urbanik

What happened to the last guy we had ? He was pretty good, former coach. Knew his stuff.

I've come out of hibernation from the old board (TexasDeac) to agree with siff on this . I live out of state and have valued the radio broadcasts for years. The contrast is stark with basketball with Dinger offering such good insight--Sorenson is horrible-- a total lightweight who knows nothing about football. I am sure he is good at baseball, but the football broadcasts are an embarrassment.

do we have any DUI attorney advertisements on the broadcast?

Riley Skinner was awesome for the Military bowl. I think he's in the mortgage industry, wonder if he could free up 13 Saturdays to cover the deacs.

I believe it was Larry's first year on the mic. And He's a baseball guy. He has quite a story and is a great man. But yes, his football color could use some work. I think he has the potential to be better though, lets not cut him loose yet.

Ok. What's the truth?

Urbanik was let go long before Elord was hired. He was let go (I believe) after the 2009 season. Some combination of Proehl and Ed Bradley filled in for a while after that. Elrod wasn't hired, obviously, until Grobe was let go.

Is Riley not still working on the ACC Network? He was on their studio show for a season or two with Tommy Bowden.

Wasn't there someone else for a year or two? I seem to remember a punter.

I agree, we need a good football guy and surely there is somebody out there that played at Wake that would fit the bill. We've had the Dinger for basketball color for a long time and we some continuity on the football side. I think Ed Bradley was the color guy for football for a pretty good while and did a good job. In the last 10 years or so we've probably had 6 or 7 guys in that role at least. Riley would be awesome if he had the time.

THe problem is you need a local guy since the position doesn't pay that well, and he'd need a job in Winston. It's really a part time gig.

I would even take a retired high school coach. Just someone that knows football.
