Crawford

if Crawford comes back for his senior year instead of going pro in Turkmenistan, then he stands a pretty good chance of being a 2,000 point career guy at Wake and that would put him with some pretty good company. He would also be the worst 2,000 point guy in ACC history (hyperbole, sorry).

I've actually been tracking this. 2000 is not likely, but he could certainly end up a Top-10 scorer at WFU.

If all this continues and Craw graduates and decides he's had enough of Wake and its "fans", next year will be dramatically and negatively impacted barring a JC-like improvement of a PG.

RJ already hedging on his Top 15 prediction for next year.

I wonder what's amiss with Crawford? Off the top of my head:
1. envisioned himself playing into a pro contract this year. Nope
2. saw himself leading the team back to the NCAAT. Nope
3. expected himself to take a step forward as a player. Nope
4. looked forward to thrilling fans and earning their love for his and the team's success. Nope

We have the same expectations from him that I'm sure he has for himself. He is a confidence/ swagger player who has lost his mojo temporarily. He's pressing and trying to make great plays to validate his game rather than smart plays, which are not his forte. When he has a heart to heart with himself, his coach, his team and realizes it's time to establish new goals for the rest of his college career, we might see a return of his swagger and an improved all around game. Right now, he's just playing like hot garbage and hurting the team more than helping, IMHO.

Thanks for writing this as now I don't have to articulate it. I think this is a whole lot about a kid whose NBA dreams are dying on the court in real time and he knows it. That has got to be hard. That said, he can choose to come back to earth as a really good college player with some overseas coin ahead of him whenever he so chooses to do so. I hope he doesn't just decide to run off and do that next year in, say, Belgium, for $65,000, but he could. If he accepts his gifts and limitations as a player, then he can be a Greece/Turkey/Italy/France pro player for a decade and get to a place where he is earning mid 6-figures. For any college graduate looking at that possibility at age 26 or so, they are doing some things right.

But Crawford has got to accept that he is not turning into Russell Westbrook. He's Julius Hodge or LD Williams, which is fine. Free college and a pro career in a cool place. Go. Get it done. But you need to show some maturity NOW to even get to that.

Last two games Crawford has got the reverse two to one assist/turnover ratio. 14 turnovers, 7 assists.

Hodge had a pretty abysmal over seas career. He was run out of Australia after a couple of seasons for being a dick, despite averaging a triple double for his team, not sure where else he played but he is an assistant college coach now, when most guys would still be playing.

And Steph Curry tied the NBA record for most missed threes without making one.

If Craws numbers continue like that for the rest of the season, then you have something to talk about. Two games out of close to 100 played is a blip.

Like so many other times, you change what I post to dishonestly make it fit your bullshit.

I'm not hedging. You are changing what I post.

True - saying something COULD easily happen is hedging to begin with. My mistake.

No, it's being rational and honest. Those are two things you have never been able to do if I'm involved. Your visceral hatred makes your impossible to believe.

It's not two games. The last two games are worse than the two games prior, which were worse than the two games prior to that. He is on a downward trajectory and most of it is in his head.

On a positive note, he can dunk this year without banging it off the back rim. Two summers ago, he worked on his strength and it seems this summer he worked on his vertical. I am sure he hoped that would lead him to a dominant pre-NBA season a la John Collins. So, to be clear, I don't think his struggles are due to lack of effort or laziness. I think he is pouting internally because the hard work isn't materializing the way he thought it would. I think he feels more comfortable on the court and is trying passes - like the behind the back pass against Duke that was a turnover (he made it look like a mishandle, but it was a failed behind the back pass), that simply aren't working. On top of that, I DO think he is looking at his stats/padding stats so that when we are struggling, he is starting to take bad shots which has led him to have bad form now even on good shots. In short, it is a clusterfuck for him. The truth is he is not an accurate passer. He often throws the right pass to Doral Moore, it is just a bad pass either two feet to high or way too hard, etc... He's simply not an NBA player and not from lack of effort or desire.

Per Deac Sheet, he is the fifth Deac to reach 1,200 points and 400 assists and the first to do so before his senior year.

Will you admit you’re wrong when we are no where close to Top 15 next year?

Banking on freshmen to bail out your team will mean a very inconsistent season, at best. The fact is, Craw and Key are going to have to get their heads straight if we want to stay out of the cellar again next year.

Do any other "old timers" feel like Crawford is mirroring the painful 4 year demise of Robert O'Kelly from 20 years ago?

Will you admit you’re wrong when we are no where close to Top 15 next year?

If I'm wrong about what I say in October 2018, I will.

The reason I used the word "could" at this point is we have to see who is here and if they are healthy. I understand that reasonable and rational, but that is the case.

How about this one? Will you start acting civilly towards me rather than you immediate Pavlovian hatred and immediate condescending responses?

Freshmen are not to be counted on, see Kentucky's multiple five star class this season that has seen them plummet from the rankings.

It's actually sort of funny that so many are putting their hopes and dreams in freshmen next year. There's just not a bunch of evidence in Wake Forest's history that they are going to play up to the expectations everyone has built up for them.
