Video Game Thread - $70 Zelda Expansion!

I just played super Mario rpg for the first time. fun game, what should be next on SNES Classic?

Looking at that pack, I was really looking forward to playing: (not in perfect order, but close)

1. Zelda (yeah, i've beaten it in the last 5 years, but it's great)
2. Mario RPG
3. Mega Man X (also beaten recently, but lots of fun. I've got a Gamecube disc with the first 8 or so original Mega Mans, and a disc with the first 5 or whatever X's)
4. Final Fantasy (never played)
5. Earthbound/Castlevania (don't think I ever played either)
6. Donkey Kong
7. Contra (bc I'm a masochist)
8. Star Fox 2

Secret of Mana looks interesting, but I never played it.

I've beaten those Mario games recently, so that's why they're not on the list. And those fighting games end up being more frustrating than fun.

Anyone here played Shadow of the Colossus? I never played the original, but am strongly considering picking up the remake this afternoon. I've been looking for an RPG to get into, but am a little confused as to what this game really is after reading this on its Wiki page:

"The game is unusual within the action-adventure genre in that there are no towns or dungeons to explore, no characters with whom to interact, and no enemies to defeat other than the colossi."

I played the original. It's slow and plodding, but fun, with an amazing sense of scope.

I know we've talked about this before, but do y'all watch any streamers on Twitch?

Dr. Disrespect got 387K viewers in his first stream yesterday following a month off due to infidelity (unsure if it really happened or if he just took the month off). He plays Battle Royale games (primarily PUBG and H1Z1). I have also watched Ninja play a fair amount of Fortnite.

Also do some Hearthstone and Eternal streamers from time to time. Like having it on in the background instead of music while I work from time to time.

my friend loves Dr. Disrespect - super into the mythos of the character (able to recount his appearances at real-world events/notable moments in the stream)

eh. I don't get super crazy about streamers but I see the entertainment appeal.

I don't think I could work to it though.

Imaqtpie is the most consistently entertaining LoL's streamer I've watched. He's very chill, informative, and pretty funny. Also, if you were going to do an artist rendering of a professional gamer/neck beard, you'd come up with:

It's a great game. One of my favorites. I'm going to pick up the remastered version. It's not really an RPG though but it does have tremendous atmosphere and music

I'm not sure if this makes me a millennial or an old, but I prefer stream highlights and/or produced videos. I certainly enjoy watching streams, but it's never a priority and thus never really happens for me.

Maybe this is why I love RedZone and binging Netflix on-demand.

Ended up picking up Shadow of the Colossus on you guys' recommendations, and it has not disappointed. Decided to play it on hard, so it has taken me about an average of about 30 minutes per colossus battle (mostly because it took me about 20 minutes to realize I had a bow during one of the battles) through the first 3. Lots of cool mechanics and while I never played the PS2 version, I can't imagine how crazy it was when it first came out. The only game I think I've seen with that sort of scale that early was God of War, and it still pales in comparison. I'm glad you said it wasn't really an RPG, and that I read it was a "minimalist" game because it helped shift my expectations. So thanks for the recs.

Great list. Knocked off the first three. Don’t know if I should jump into FF or something a bit quicker

Into the Breach is so friggin' good. If you liked FTL (and if you didn't like FTL, you probably haven't played FTL, so go play FTL), you'll like this. Really addictive, great soundtrack, hard but not unfair (though a bit easier than FTL, in my experience). Really interesting strategy mechanics with a deceptive amount of depth. One of the best UIs in a strategy game ever.

If this isn't game of the year for 2018, something crazy's gonna had to have unseated it.

Just heard about this today. Very interested.

I've never played Smash Bros and watching that video made me think that's a huge hole in my gaming resume.
