BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

TJDK. The Rice kid will be like Wes Miller was at UNC...He'll play 3 years, go to grad school at Wake and come back and coach us at 27.

900 wins to follow.

Les quoted Manning as saying the Rice transfer had an impressive freshman season. He averaged 3.1 PPG and 1.2 RPG for a team that went 7-24.

Why is the school/program even advertising new preferred walk-ons? Why is he giving quotes to Les about our great new walk ons? Does this happen often in other, healthy programs?

Trying to get any type of news out there that can be seen as positive to hide the fact the program is garbage.

So we add these guys to Chill,Craw,Brown,Melo,Sarr and Okeke?

Am I forgetting anyone? It's not like we are going to have a trash roster. Obviously are front court attrition will hurt us but shouldn't be as detrimental as losing Dinos/Collins last year.

You asked me why I included walk-ons in the list of players Manning brought into the program. Normally walk-ons tryout once the school year starts. These are preferred walk-ons. Manning recruited them, so they're on the list.

The criticism is that we're letting a 5th year coach bring in 9 new players to rebuild the program instead of a new coach. If we fire Manning, a new coach will inherit a roster with 8 players in their second year in the program (minus transfers and early entry). That's a lot of dead weight.

The wheat will separate from the chaff with some of the chaff leaving the program. Let's hope that there is much more wheat than some expect and that it doesn't leave as well.

I understand the point you are trying to make. I understand that you don't like Manning and want him fired. But when you add in the walk-ons, it seems like you are just adding in the numbers to increase the impact... The reality is it that is just makes your argument look kind of silly.

Yes, it is alarming that he's bringing in 7 new players. It is a lot. A few of them probably don't belong in the ACC. I completely agree that if we are going to fire him, there is no time like the present (if the present were about 1-2 months ago). It's time to move on to next season., though. Hopefully, we are (much) better. If we aren't, hopefully we can get enough support to make a move. I don't expect people to act like all is well, but criticizing everything about the program clouds the real issues.

We lost two walk-ons to graduation. Manning had the opportunity to add two walk-ons that are ostensibly more talented than your average walk-ons. By all accounts, they are good students and good people (and I'd include Okeke in this as a preferred walk-on).

I'm not sure if you are implying that Manning wasted energy recruiting these guys when he should be recruiting more talented (scholarship) players, but it has been documented that it was Miles Lester who reached out to Coach Woodberry to inquire about the possibility of walking on... Not that Manning went actively looking to bring him in. I don't understand why anyone would criticize an announcement of a couple of walk-ons in early May... I don't think it is some sort of smokescreen to hide the failures of the program. It just seems like acknowledging a couple of walk-ons who are going to be sacrificing a lot for the program. Kind of like starting senior walk-ons in their last game. I wouldn't read anything into it.

I am a lot more concerned about what Lorng and Johnson say about the state of our program than the walk-ons.

I really think most of you are missing the point, without all of this garbage we would not have had enough players to practice, unless of course we want to follow the movie Hoosiers.

LOL. Wut? Austin Arians was pretty good.

I consider Arians to be a wing. It's splitting hairs, though. Our grad transfers since we canned Dino include:

Austin Arians, Milwaukee
Coron Williams, Robert Morris
Terrence Thompson, Marshall
Darius Leonard, Campbell

Not sure if you are serious. In any case that is a valid observation. Plus, you never know when you might stumble across a diamond in rough...a Luke May (although I think he had legitimate scholarship offers but wanted to be at UNC).

You specifically said guard. Mich, you can look it up.

We should have a whole team of preferred walk-ons! It would increase our chances of finding a diamond!!

I was being very serious. What did we have for sure coming back 5, maybe 6 players. Practice would have been 3 on 3 half court, make it take it.

Sure. But we didn’t need to be in that situation with a coach in desperation mode as opposed to a new coach in rebuilding mode.

Yeah we all know Manning needed to be let go but it was NEVER going to happen with Wellman so why keep belaboring the point every other post? Unless you just enjoy piling on with negativity in what is a hopeless feeling position for most of us. I do realize this is the MO for this board but some of you must be real fun at parties

My parties don’t suck like Wake basketball does. If they did, I would complain about them. Enabler fans like you are why Wellman can get away with this crap.
