Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

The right-wing which is much more astute at politics than the left loves buddying up to the far left

Well in the past, it's been able to scare the more moderate Dems into voting against socialist Dem candidates or even somewhat normal progressive left wing candidates. Unfortunately for the GOP, this tactic will likely backfire in the near (and possibly immediate) future because the generation of millennials that can now vote is much more receptive to those progressive left-wing ideologies and are more motivated than ever to vote. There's only so many old, white Dems left that haven't already switched to Republican already.

Man I wish the DSA would quit with the anti-trade nonsense. Love most of what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says, but then she drops this and economists everywhere cringe.

We do need to be prepared for all consequences of trade agreements, positive and negative, winners and losers.

Sure. But when you suggest that NAFTA or the TPP creates refugees, it makes you look like a looney tune, and you are already working uphill to try to get your message taken seriously. Admittedly, Trump does or says something crazier multiple time daily and has completely changed how we think about politicians, but hopefully we can get back to the point where we hold our leaders to a higher standard.

thought the general consensus was that those trade deals help raise the standards of living in those countries at the cost of American Standards of living

NAFTA = refugees from Honduras, Ecuador, and Guatemala? that's a novel theory. American policy does bear some responsibility for the breakdown of those countries - specifically, our drug policy and our policy of propping up dictators and sponsoring civil war during the Cold War. But NAFTA? Someone's going to have to explain that link to me because I don't see it.

it's an old lefty reflex: if there is a problem south of the border, then blame Uncle Sam, simple monocausal explanation for simple lefty minds
Your understanding of American foreign policy is clearly very nuanced and informed, typical of the common Republican.

Why looney tune? There is much economic analysis that NAFTA has not benefited Mexico: http://cepr.net/images/stories/reports/nafta-mexico-update-2017-03.pdf?v=2

Is your point that many of the people crossing the borders aren't coming from Mexico, but instead from Central America? That the term refugee is a mischaracterization? That their reasons for leaving aren't economic?
