BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

So far the coaches have been watching Anthony Harris and Trayce Jackson-Davis this week. Not sure why DM thinks we have a shot with Davis. Sure he coached him for USA this summer, but that is the only connection.

The only shot I see is if Davis wants to get out of the pressure cooker of IN. His dad was a beloved Pacer.

Does Manning improve his defense, substitutions and end of game coaching in these hypotheticals? If not, I suspect fans will be happier because we'll be winning more, but many folks would still complain because we'd still lose winnable games and we'd still not be competing with Duke and UNC. Don't forget, Gaudio was widely criticized and run off despite lots of talent and big wins over three years.

Nope.

yes i would. and i would bet the house on that not happening

you shouldn’t. For precisely the reason you mentioned. I think we can all agree that the chances of that happening are less than 5-10%. If it does happen Manning will be responsible, and should get credit for it, but it will also be because he got lucky.

He's a classic example of someone who can't admit being wrong. Rather than suck it up and move on, he has to make up a bunch of hypotheticals and argue technicalities until he feels like he's scored a win...or just exhausted everyone else so that he wins by default.

I’ve literally just admitted that I’ve been wrong for at least the past 6 months.

Yet you’re arguing against people who said you’ve been wrong for at least the past 6 months.

So your best case scenario hypothetical amounts to a team that has amazing talent but under achieves because the coach is not very good. I am not sure how that proves anybody wrong.

This is where we are as a program. Our best case scenario is the guy we fired 8 years ago.

“Valid” but “irrelevant” concerns? I can’t even.

And no, you definitely did not consider our concerns valid at the time. You are sugarcoating how adamant you were that we were wrong.

I was adamant that you were wrong about equating Manning with [Redacted] or being sure that Manning would not significantly improve the program. I was not adamant that Manning had great substitution patterns, defensive schemes, or in-game adjustments.

He didn’t, and still doesn’t. I was just adamant that it didn’t matter if he had enough talent and that I was confident he could get (and keep) that talent.

I was wrong about the latter.

That’s always been my best case scenario and yet y’all have been arguing against it (or the straw man you created out of it) for almost 3 years now.

Because it’s a shitty best case scenario that shows Manning isn’t the one.

This is where we were as a program 4 years ago. Our best case scenario is the guy we fired 8 years ago.

You’re starting to get it.

That’s pretty much the whole fucking point. The Manning hate picked up in full force in year 2 when he didn’t have us back in the top 50 faster than Tony Bennett. Since he wasn’t progressing as quickly as one of the 10 best coaches in college basketball y’all equated him to [Redacted] and started begging for Wellman to get one more chance.

When I stepped in and argued that he could probably get the same results as Dino using the same approach y’all chewed my head off and claimed I was an idiot for thinking Manning would ever be our coach K.

You are lawyering the hell out of this thread. I have no idea if you’re the prosecution or the defense.

Because it’s a shitty best case scenario that shows Manning isn’t the one.

It’s also not that shitty. An underachieving team with amazing (kinda) talent and a shitty coach won a championship just 4-5 years ago. That’s both significantly better than AND a huge improvement over shitty.

Says the guy who found a significant difference (but not a huge improvement) between being the 42nd best team and the 43rd best team in the country as determined by a group of old guys that don’t have anything to do with basketball.

So, what does the 2019 scholarship situation look like now?

Either Danny assumes this kid will make us better this year, or he assumes he can't do better in 2019. Filling the roster with a questionable freshman is quite a bit different than signing late grad transfers.
BSD comes through with an updated chart:

According to the comments, we should be a force to be reckoned with in 2020.

Just Wynn, baby.
