BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Support. Enable. Not the same thing. The last time change happened was when people stopped giving money. After similar results no one is paying enough attention to stop giving and force change.

This coming weekend is make or break for Danny. No Anthony Harris or No Trayce Jackson-Davis, then he should just start packing his bags.

It would be almost a miracle to get Davis from what all the "experts" are saying. To say not getting him is a last nail for Manning is a bit much.

I would guess we might have a better chance at Cole Anthony than TJD and that is miniscule.

Why would you guess that?

Because every prediction I've seen (from multiple sites) is for him going to Indiana. Add to this, his father is beloved in the state.

Until we get an official visit scheduled with Cole Anthony, I would say that our chances with Jackson-Davis are probably still better.

I agree with netflix, though - if we don't land one or both of Harris/Jackson-Davis, then 2019 recruiting will just about be a complete failure.

I don’t think if we don’t land one of those two that it’s a for sure dud of a class. We have a lot of other prospects considering us so it’s possible to still land a couple good ones, however unlikely it is/may seem.

I don't remember such little recruiting buzz this time of year, even during the Bz years.

bz was locking down 2-star gym rats by this time in the recruiting cycle

We’ve got 3 or 4 prospects coming to the ND game per Les. Not sure if we can sign any of them when the time comes.

I feel like there may have been more "newsflow" because we had folks who fancied themselves as informed... We were also recruiting less talented players (for the most part).

As posted above, there are a bunch of folks coming for the ND game... I don't expect us to get Jackson-Davis (at all), but it'll be nice if we can get him on campus with everyone else on the schedule. I would be happy with any of the players we are currently discussing. Need to at least land a couple before moving down the list. Then you just have to hope that the season gets off to a promising start to get some sort of momentum going.

But yeah, the next few weeks are crucial.

Like who? Who do we have a reasonable chance with that could salvage this class. The goal should be to build on classes. Even if we can't land another Hoard, we should be surrounding Hoard with 4-star players to ensure that he isn't a one man foundation (and that his class isn't expected to provide the only talent in our rebuild).

The biggest issues with [Redacted] and Manning as recruiters is that a good class is followed by a subpar class. Great programs bring in players every year they have the scholarships to do so. They're not stacking classes with filler because they have scholarships to give and betting the farm on once in a decade-caliber prospects to bring them occasional success.

Going 1/4 on the recruiting class that follows a "foundational" or "core" recruiting class on your first contract as a coach is a really bad look. Good coaches just don't do this and good programs don't tolerate it.

Me neither.

Indeed he was. That said, Manning has pulled in his share of "unheralded" misses, too. That 2016 class will probably go down as one of the worst classes in recent memory, [Redacted]'s classes included.

I noticed Evan Daniels made a crystal ball on Anthony Harris on 8/28, but it's behind a pay wall. Would be curious to know if it's VT like all the others.

(already know I'm gonna hear something from Les on this one)

Yeah, that is 100% correct. VaTech has a lot of young guards so we should promise him the moon.

I have zero expectation for this class. I think if we won 18-20 games last year (like we should have), then we would have no problem signing a great class, but our infuriating lack of success in the close games has created a major recruiting issue for Manning and the staff. Considering we are still in the game with a lot of really solid recruits, I am going to remain hopeful, but it would be pretty unbelievable if we sign some of our top targets considering our competition for their signature.

1. I don’t think anyone on here, with the possible exception of Les, has any idea what are chances are with the recruits we’ve been linked to (and probably some we haven’t been linked to). That’s kind of the point. I get viewing this class as 2016 all over again until it isn’t, but the only things we know about this class are that the visit/finalist list is far more impressive but that the current signees (I.e. none) are worse.

2. [Redacted] had a good class? And Manning’s had two solid classes, one dud, one TBD (it’s a little early to write off Chaundee/Sarr), and one class that looks potentially great.

3. Childress’s contribution alone makes 2016 better than [Redacted]’s 2011 and 2013 classes and Skip’s 04 class. Depending on how he finishes up it could easily end up better than the 05 class as well.

I get the pessimism, but we did beat out Kansas for Chaundee after an equally abysmal season. My guess is this class will look more like 2015 on paper than 2016 or 2018. Which isn’t really good enough at this point in the rebuild but will likely be more than enough for Wellman. I hope I’m wrong.
