2020 Carolina Panthers Thread

We'd only be 1.5 games behind Minnesota with 3 to play

I can't see them losing twice after tonight. It would have been helpful if the Bears had lost last night for a couple reasons, including that it's highly likely they'll already have the division wrapped if they're facing a Minnesota team that's 8-6-1 or worse, and thus probably rest guys in that Week 17 matchup in Minny

Though if Saints are 12-3 (or 11-4) going into that final game and Bears are 11-4, possibility of the Bears getting a bye in the first round and sending the Saints to Chicago would be on the table. Though in that scenario the Saints wouldn't rest guys against us, making that game harder to win.

So still some hope if Vikes win tonight, but an L def the preferred outcome

I thought you meant mathematically eliminated with Vikes win tonight. Not that it really matters since we're not going 3-0 the rest of the way, but still always have that little smidge of hope until officially eliminated

The idea that Cam hasn’t improved each season is laughable too. His short throws and check downs are muuuuuuuch better than previous seasons. I was legitimately concerned when we drafted CMC that we would waste him because Cam would fire missiles at his chest or over his head from five yards out.

Its possible. I feel like we could beat the saints and atlanta at home, and have the saints bench their starters at home in the superdome giving us a 9-7 backdoor to the playoffs. #vibes.

Yeah but in that scenario I think the Saints would have to try in Week 17 since we've have already given them their 3rd loss and they would need to be a game up on the Rams going into that last week. I guess maybe the other way if they were locked into #2 seed but after yesterday that seems very unlikely

I can see it a bit if the Rams are 13-2 and the Saints are 12-3, and the Bears are 10-5. In that scenario the Saints have a bye locked and they'd need the Niners to win in LA to give them home field. To say the least that's not very likely -- so maybe they give Brees and the big guns a few series before turning it over to the backups

This. If the biggest criticism of Cam is that he is completing 69% of his passes by checking down to a RB who will be a legit threat to catch 100 balls for 1000 yards, then you know people are full of it.

He was playing spectacularly well through the first half of the season. PIT got to him a lot in the Thursday nighter, maybe had some lasting effects on the shoulder.

Also coulda made good money betting neither team would make the playoffs before that one

any talk of trading or cutting cam is bat shit insane

I find it weird that people seem to think we are only defending Cam because he's a Panther and this is a Panthers thread. As though people on this thread, and fans in general, don't throw players on their team under the bus all the time. I feel like fans of that team are actually usually quicker to dismiss them. As though 2 bad games wouldn't have Patriot fans questioning whether Brady is finished or not, before he goes out and throws for 400 yards.

I’m pretty conservative about getting rid of a definite top 20 QB anyway.

And then when we're losing by 7 late in the game he can't complete a 12-yard pass.

Love seeing the ad nauseum replay of the TD where Corn Elder refused to turn around

C'mon Panthers, let's spare the nation ol' Noodlearm in the playoffs

Man, Cam brings out the hottest of takes from people. I know he is a polarizing personality but damn. People who say Cam is a bottom of the league QB are idiots. I get so sick of the "Cam sucks and is a terrible qb" shtick, and equally sick of people who defend ever pass and thing he ever does.

if he dedicated himself to honing his craft like elite QBs do, he'd be so much better and have much better success. Instead of he could do well to follow the lead of the elite QBs and spend every available minute making himself better. Looking at game film, time on the practice field, one on one drills, studying offensive strategies, ball accuracy, etc. This is all on him.

That is just a stupid take about professional sports in general, particularly quarterbacking. Cam has been an above average passing QB his whole career. No one in the world is capable of successfully starting at QB in the NFL for 8 seasons, throwing for over 3000 yards a season for 8 straight seasons, without doing an intense amount of work practicing and studying film.
