Possible Wake Forest Coaching Candidates Analysis

Completely agree. This has been a big problem. Wellman even forced Elrod in Clawson and know how that turned out.

The coach doesn’t have a ton of say about who does radio work.

They do after they've stolen your playbook. Clawson questioned Elrod from the beginning. He's on record as having said so.

Glad to see interest in Matta. His record speaks for itself. The best coach available.

Matta was replaced at tOSU because he was physically unable to handle the demands of the job. He has had back surgery and it became difficult to walk or sit due to pain extending from his back down his legs. He was unable to perform the physical demands of coaching and recruiting at his previous levels and expectations. Sleeping was difficult. Physical exhaustion was a probability.

After leaving he discovered many of the physical symptoms he experienced were exacerbated by job related stress. He was able to sleep. He was free of worry. He had time for family, friends and outside interests. The pain disappeared and he was able to smile. He enjoys life again.

Matta questions whether he will ever return to coaching. He has stated he would consider a "special situation". He will demand a work/life balance to maintain the health and happiness he has recovered.

Maybe a ground floor rebuild would be to Matta's liking. Less immediate stress and an opportunity to build a program to his liking. He might enjoy coaching at a smaller university, similar to Butler or Xavier. A place that offers a work/life balance and has a family atmosphere. That might be special.

The fact is he is required to seek other coaching opportunities as part of his buyout and he is available for interview. I believe the powers that be at Wake Forest would be wise to initiate communication with Thad Matta. The worse that can happen is he would have no interest and say no. The best that can happen is Thad Matta would listen and would say yes.

The primary reason most people are unable to sell is that they are afraid of rejection and never ask for the sale. Ask.

We do not want a coach that is looking for work-life balance. We want a hungry coach that is consumed by the job and a need to win.

We need a coach who has repeatedly won at the highest level and is capable of a complete rebuild. Someone who has been there...done that and wants to do it again.

While that sounds great, the only reason a coach like that would be available if there are some associates red flags. Which clearly they are with Matta.

In his case, I’d be happy with him. But I’d much rather have Oats and he doesn’t meet the above criteria.

There are definitely tons of these guys, so we're in good shape. What's Larry Brown up to?

Matta came very close to taking the Georgia job last year. Private plane to Athens, etc. etc. Seemed like a done deal at one point and might have been.

Whether that says more about his willingness to get back into coaching or the opposite of that, I don't know.

I'd like to think he took one look at WFU and knew the job would be coming open soon, but that's probably wishful thinking.

What does donaldross think of the choice of Matta? If we don't ensure that the new coach meets with dr's approval then we're all just enablers of this disaster, not to mention failures at life.

My guess is we've already initiated conversations with Matta - maybe through that firm Odom was with (though that firm got us Manning) or an agent or intermediary or something - Manning's agent got wind, leaked the buyout story to Goodman to make us all freak out because technically, had we fired Manning in the middle of the season, we would have owed him all that cash, but really the buyout is reduced after this year due to some competition clauses he hasn't met, and we will be golden. Darth Thad will arrive, hire Mike Conley as an assistant when he retires, and the curse will be reversed.

Nah. He's trash

I had to do a double take on this, too, because Pastner is the worst, YET, I think he was saying it is too early to say if Pastner is worse than Manning. Reluctantly, I admit I have to agree that even though Pastner is the worst, he may be slightly better than Manning, but the jury is still out. He could still fulfill his destiny to plummet to the bottom and be the worst coach AND worst camera hogging try-hard walk-on fraud. That's how bad Manning is. It's a real bummer, man.

Look, I get why I'm the focus here. In 2009, I said hire Miller or Kelsey. In 2014, I said hire Miller or Kelsey or Wojo. Look at UNCG, Winthrop, and Marquette now. Since 1996, I have been screaming for a smaller stadium. Many of you told me I was nuts.

Now you figured out I was right the entire time. Those that politely stuck by Wellman through these two decades of disaster are fully responsible for this debacle. And not getting it right this time through force will keep us firmly in the loser column.

I'm glad that we've all come to the conclusion that donaldross was right the whole time.
