Tell me about San Francisco

On Sunday it might be fun to go down to the Farmer's Market and take the ferry to Sausilito

The farmer's market at the Ferry Building is Saturdays -- and it is indeed awesome. This is a much, much better option for lunch vs. In-N-Out.

If you like dim sum, Yank Sing downtown is excellent, but it's also REALLY expensive. If you're a foodie, love dim sum, and don't mind slumming it a bit, it's worth the trip to Shanghai Dumpling King in the Outer Richmond. That's close to Sutro Baths, Cliff House, Ocean Beach and close enough to GG Park, the Presidio, the GG Bridge, etc.

Best vantage for the GG Bridge is by the batteries, IMO. Only really practical by car though.

BDZ, it's not cheap but it's not REALLY expensive. It becomes more reasonable if you have 3-4 people.

Awesome city with remarkable food, weather (that's right, a 50-70 range is perfect) and incredible scenary close to awe inspiring national parks and water everywhere. Oh, and a plethora of hot Asian women.

I'd love to retire in SF. Off to make the millions it would take to do so.

Totally agree. I've been plotting to move out there for a while now. Would love to get a short term gig for like 3-6 months to see if I would like to live there permanently. Fun place to visit.

Maybe if you eat like a bird. If you order the good stuff, you're easily spending $30-$40 a head.

I like Spragoo's list, but definitely venture to Zeitgeist for epic bar and the mission (24th street for epic mexican food-Farolito is good, my favorite is Espiga de oro-and epic coffee shops).

I don't eat like a bird and had the crab and duck....$25-35 is about what I figure there...that's about average for a decent restaurant these days.

I'd recommend Epic Roasthouse at the Embarcadero for a drink on the second floor. Great view of the Bay Bridge. I would then head to Michael Fina's restaurant (if you can get in). It's within walking distance. Cheers!

Spent 5 days there with my wife a couple years ago. One of my favorite vacations ever. Man, that was fun.

I would recommend going out to the Farallon Islands and hanging out with the seals. Did you know that there are three different seals species who live on or visit the island (especially for breeding)? You're sure to find a favorite. The islands are actually closed to the public, so you'll have to rent a boat and sneak onshore in a clandestine manner.

I second the recommendation to avoid Fisherman's Wharf. There's always some tourist there just staring at you.

Digging this thread up... is SF miserable to visit in February?

it's great in February. Sunny everyday and the wind hasn't started yet.

Phan have you ever taken the ferry to Sausilito. It looks pretty cool and appears to go very fast.

a longer answer: i've been planning to go for a bike-ride that ends in sausalito and then ferry back, but i havent done it yet.

Took the "flying bee" helicopter service from Sausalito to SF Airport once many a year ago. Wonder if they're still in service.

North Beach Restaurant. One of the best Italian meals I've ever had anywhere in the US. Ask to be seated where Manfred is the waiter. Dude knows wine like few waiters I've ever known. I've had probably a half dozen meals there over the years. Always incredible.

It's a fun day trip if you do it like that. The ferry is really simple. Pretty quick though. Go to Sushi Ran.
