2019 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

I heard that the UCLA job has been open for 100 days (as of tomorrow). How have they f’d this up , this much.

Kind of undermines the argument in favor of midseason firings. Really amazing that they didn’t have a replacement lined up.

Had to wait on Calipari to exit the tournament so they could offer him that sweet pay cut!

I mean, Currie had Schiano basically signed two weeks after firing Butch Jones and before the regular season was even over. Not really comparable to UCLA at all. What happened after that was down to the fans and Fulmer's scheming. The guy they ended up with was a worse candidate than the three different coaches the admin wouldn't let Currie hire (Schiano, Doeren, Leach).

Jeremy Pruitt is not a good hire and if it was a good hire it would have happened years earlier. He’a a Plan C at best.

Fuck those guys.

And paying Rick Barnes $5 million a year when his team is graduating and he’s 70 doesn’t scream competence either.

Barnes worked the ucla situation to perfection. He's from hickory and nearing retirement. Did he really want to coach in LA? He has a great gig and fat contract in Knoxville.

Pretty telling where we are as a program that Manning could be the poster child for the point of that article and he/WFU doesn't even get a mention.
The level of irrelevance that we've achieved is stunning.

Manning had zero NBA coaching experience and 11 years of college coaching experience.

I have no information either way, but I think Barnes is going to UCLA.

I understand why you'd flirt in order to get a better deal, but this feels like something more. I wonder if Barnes just wants to tell fat Phil to go fuck himself after how he bullied his way into the AD role?

Could just be the UF fan in me hoping for the worse for the Vols... But I have a hunch he's going to take the gig in LA.

Did he take the job yet?

:couch:

Nate Oats just got his top player to stay despite offers from Duke, etc. But Nate Oats can't recruit and needs JUCO's to be successful :wtftard:

There is a difference between getting a player already committed to stay and recruiting a guy from initial contact to signed LOI.

The concern was that Oats had no track record of recruiting top level talent. There is always some level of question as to how ability to do one thing will translate into ability to do something else, even if related or similar.

I would not regard this as an example of him recruiting a high level player.

Manning did not really have a track record of recruiting top level talent, and that's the one part of the job he isn't dog shit awful at.

Gotta be a bad day for a VT fan. In one weekend you go from basketball relevance to irrelevance just as your rival wins the national championship. This must be their #rockbottom. Boy they got there quickly. Must be nice.

He also can't coach defense at all. There are really a lot of areas of the job he's awful at.

Also LOL at the Tennessee folks' slams at Currie. We are such a national joke at this point.

There's always football. If the Hokies gridiron domination of the Hoos was a human, it would eligible for a learner's permit.

Danny had nine years at Kansas recruiting high level talent before he went to Tulsa. Not the same as Oats zero years at P6 programs in any capacity.
