Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Apparently, no non-stops between DC and El Paso. Have to fly through Dallas, Houston or Atlanta. Pain in the arse, looks like 7+ hours of travel time, unless you have access to a private jet. Sun Bowl is problematic.

Oof was planning on going wherever we went - but this is what I am seeing now from NYC. Long flights and looking like $700-$800 per person on Delta, American or Southwest. Fingers crossed for a freezing Pinstripe Bowl.

FWIW: This site puts Wake in the Sun Bowl against Cal.

If that turns out to be the case, what is the best way (using the term very loosely) to get to El Paso? Potential departure from the D.C. area.

Those projections are terrible, there is no way the ACC would willingly give up their spot in the Music City Bowl (one of the conference's tier 1 bowls) to another conference when we have plenty of eligible teams. That makes no sense.

247 has in in the Pinstrip Bowl

Athlon has us in Music City Bowl

Jerry Palm/CBS - Sun Bowl

"turn off the paved road"

I actually hitchhiked to (and from) El Paso more than five decades ago -- the long way (via Mexico City) -- but I don't think I'll take that route again ... paved or not.

Yeah it seems getting to El Paso from the Northeast is ass. Expensive fares and long travel times. And it's not like it's Miami, where there's tons of other shit to do to stay a few extra days.

Last year, I posted some possible itineraries for a nice Southwest trip that would incorporate the Sun Bowl. Not sure if I included the Grand Canyon in them. I’m pretty sure I suggested flying into ABQ and spending time there and in Santa Fe.

if the Orange bowl takes ND would they do a rematch of VT or UVA?

That's definitely one of the variables that makes the Orange Bowl more problematic than a lot of bowl projections seem to think. Also, I saw on the ACC Network the studio guys (Mark Richt, EJ Manuel, etc.) talking about how ND might get the Orange Bowl, and if that happens then they couldn't see the next few bowls taking Wake over VT or Virginia. (They are clearly thinking that ND would take the ACC spot in the Orange Bowl, which is not how that works either...)

I will say if VT beats UVA and plays in the ACCCG then they do have the inside track to the Orange Bowl, but they'd still have one more loss than Wake and what if they just get reamed in the title game (like Clemson has done to everyone else)?

It's a very long shot, in my opinion, for us to get the Orange Bowl any more, but the one scenario that might work is for UVA to beat Tech on Friday, especially if they win by a couple of TDs or more, and then UVA get blown out by Clemson in the title game (i.e. they lose by about 48 points). In that scenario UVA and Va Tech each have four losses to Wakes three and the loss to UVA "might" knock Tech down the rankings just far enough to let Wake sneak ahead by winning its last two games. Highly unlikely, even if all that happens, but that is the one scenario I see that might work. So we all should be Wahoo fans on Friday.

This is, of course, if you're willing to sign up for a potential matchup with Georgia in that game, which at this point I'm like, "Why not?" :)

Another scenario in the realm of possibility is UGA beating LSU in the SECCG, and both teams making it to the CFP. That would put Bama in the Sugar Bowl, and then a Big 10 team could slot into the Orange Bowl which would open up the Citrus Bowl for an ACC team.

Cormac McCarthy! I did not know you were a Wake fan!

Honestly, as usual, I'm just hoping for chaos at this point. Let's see what happens if Clemson loses to South Carolina and then loses to Virginia in the title game, making the Wahoos ACC champs at 10-3.

How about Georgia Tech pulls the monumental upset over Georgia, while LSU drops a shocker to A&M, but then Georgia beats the Tigers in the SEC title game.

While we're at it, why not have Michigan beat Ohio State, while Wisconsin beats Minnesota and then the Badgers beat the Buckeyes for the Big10 title.

For good measure, maybe even have USC win the Pac10 title.

ANARCHY!

I think most people are aware that, by contract, the Music City Bowl must take an ACC team this year and the Gator Bowl must take a Big 10 team. However there was some reporting last week that the Music City Bowl desperately wants to take Indiana and is looking to work something out with the Gator Bowl/ACC. For its part, the Gator Bowl responded that it was definitely taking a Big 10 team, not an ACC team. So perhaps it’s a dead issue now. But I thought it was worth mentioning as it is possible that the Gator Bowl’s response was only to gain more leverage to get either financial compensation or priority in selecting an ACC team.

SEC can only have 3 teams in NY6 bowls, correct? So UF would be out?

Yeah the Gator Bowl has already fulfilled their agreement with the ACC and it’s the last year of the deal so Music City has to take one. I don’t personally see the big difference between an Indiana over a Louisville attendance wise but maybe I’m missing something
