Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Newman's has a 53% completion rate over his past 7 games. It was only 44% against Michigan State. Both are terrible.

PEOPLE... you all know that we run an RPO, so why do you keep blaming the offensive coordinator or Dave Clawson (of all people, he doesn’t even call the offense!!!) for the decision of run or pass? It is completely on the quarterback to make that decision in our offense. They have to decide whether to run or pass. The reason our offense was so execrable after the State game was Jamie Newman. In the first 8 games of the season, Jamie was confident in his receivers, lineman, running backs, and himself. He made smart decisions. After the State game, that all went away. Not only was he not confident, he made poor decisions with the football. Our offense had a net score of 14 points today. 14!!! That was due to the poor decision making of Jamie. He was not confident in his ability to throw. When Hartman came in against Syracuse, we threw way too much, and that was completely on him. Jamie had the best balance we’ve had since Wolford in the beginning of the season, and we saw evidence of what that balance does. But he lost that balance when he lost Scotty and Sage, two guys that were almost automatic. You just had to put it in their area code and they were going to make the play.

As far as today’s game goes, feels like we were honestly lucky to only lose by 6 with all the penalties and poor play by the offense.

Overall, the season feels good, not great. Some of that is definitely injuries but frankly we didn’t play well the last 5 games. I believe in Clawson but I think he would admit not his best over the last 5-6 games. I hope we take the steps we need to take to get better and finish stronger next season.

Nice turnout from Deacon nation today. Probably between 15 - 20 thousand which is really good. Hope Newman comes back and continues to improve his accuracy throwing. He is a beast running the ball.

Good to hear. Because the crowd looked embarrassingly sparse on TV.

Clawson's post game press conference was a little surprising. He says he feels good about how Wake competed today and says he would have put Newman back in the game if there was another series.

Michigan State dominated Wake the entire game and could have easily won 44 - 21.

It would be nice if Wake would hire coaches that showed some competitive fire and were actually upset about losing.

The worst thing about today's game is that it ends the football season. Now we are left with basketball.

Bizarro world comment for those of us in the mid '80's when basketball was in the Elite 8 and football blew.

Yes, we can be very good in BOTH football AND basketball, especially with our recent facilities upgrades.

THE TIME IS NOW!

I haven’t seen the bowl press conference. Clawson has been plenty upset about losing in prior press conferences.

At this point he’s re-recruiting Newman to stay for next season so his coaching strategy may be different than it would otherwise be.

Clawson's a competitive guy.

The 2-5 finish and crap bowl game performance has got to be tearing him up inside.

Newman took a big hit into the ground on his bad shoulder about midway through the game. That probably had some effect on hi throwing miion and accuracy.

Take the best two receivers away from most teams and their passing game will be less effective.

Wake sped up the mesh point a lot. Don't know why. Maybe MSU was having success with D-line push up the middle.

Early in the game, Cade Carney had success running outside left. On a couple of those runs, it looked like he was one guy away from a TD. Walker never went there.

I am not a Jamie Newman hater. I cheer passionately for all of our players all the time. I do my best not to hate on our coaches, especially Clawson. However, I firmly believe that had Sam played yesterday, even just the 4th quarter, we win, and I’m surprised that our coaches couldn’t see that. Jamie was great early in the season when both Sage and Scotty were healthy, but even then his deep ball is what he is known for. His intermediate passing is pretty bad if you ask me. He throw 4 good balls yesterday and 3 happened to go for TDs. I am struggling why our coaches didn’t see that and the first half of Syracuse and say ok, let’s give Sam a few series in the second half and see what happens. Second thing, I didn’t see a single wrinkle in our offense yesterday. No reverse, no orbit, no WR in motion. I can’t believe that Kendall finished this year with 2 rushes and 0 pass attempts. We needed a spark yesterday but instead we just kept going and hoped something would change. Thankfully they had 2 red zone turnovers and a missed chip shot FG or we would have lost by a lot more.

Maybe I’m just missing something, but the only reason I can possibly imagine someone wanting Hartman in over Newman is that he’s the scrappy little white kid.

Dude came in and threw two picks in two minutes against Syracuse and far too many of you kept fellating him.

It bothers me.

You do realize that your white midget QB god John Wofford finished his final season 8-5 too, right? Beating a team without a coach in his last bowl game.

Jamie Newman is the best thing to happen to this program since the OB. Does he have is bad days? Sure. So did Riley. Trust me I was there against Navy in the rain when he turned it over 20 times. But at the end of the day he is the team’s best chance to win. By a mile.

Yet way too many of you want to discard him for a dime-a-dozen QB who’s O/U of staying healthy in conference games is about two quarters. It’s sad.

2017>2019 Wake seasons. I am not sure that is even debatable.

I am a big Newman fan, but since the state game, he hasn't been good. One game with a completion % over 50% in his last 5 games. The way the Syracuse game was going when Newman was in there, we were looking to get blown out.

Chop block penalties were pretty weak calls by refs. Announcers couldn't find them on replay.

Also bad play kill by refs on MSU offsides. Should have been free play for Wake. Refs blew it dead. NOT unabated to QB situation.

Apparently many officials don't know what defensuve holding on receivers and pass interference are.

Yes we all know this but when you run the same fucking play every down the other team starts to get a clue. Relying on Newman to make the decision is the problem. He has not been effective running this offense the last five games. He gets emotional then runs too much beating himself up thus further reducing his effectiveness.

Why don’t we run a sweep to walker, why no orbit action with Hinton.

The offense is too predictable, Newman not effective, this is on Clawsen.

Even my non football watching daughter asked why we do the same thing every time.

Plus that punt from the 50 when we were playing well was a pussy move.

26 TD's and 11 pics for Newman 61% completion rate; 4 TD's 2 pics for Hartman 57% completion rate. when you add all the running yards for Newman it is not even close. Hope Jaime comes back.

Chop blocks ended two drives.

Maybe the officials took Wake's position as the third least penalized team as a challenge. As in "They can't be that clean. Other refs just haven't found the infractions. We will."
