Danny Manning replacement search thread

I just want Currie to find a class act like Clawson. He understands Wake and wanted the job a d presented a proven plan to have us successful. He builds character and loyalty and wins. That is what I want in our next basketball coach. Just 180° from what we have now

I think this is what everybody in the Wake community wants, save for the people who hired and renewed Danny.

This makes 100% logical and factual sense, but you don't get it.

Fuck Duke.

I get that. And have for many years.

However, I also, an much, much more want Wake to have the best coach possible as successor to Manning. If that person is a Dukie, the rest of the resume speaks so much louder that it doesn't matter.

Lefty was a Duke grad and the team he wanted to beat most was Duke. I'll take a Dukie with that attitude.

Hurley and Wojo are thriving in hoops outposts. They’ll both have their teams back in the dance. We missed on those two.

In order to miss you have to swing. We never swung toward either of those two - we do have standards. Wojo could take Marquette to 5 final 4s in a row and I would be happy to continue passing on him.

Russell Turner, Cal-Irvine coach. They play defense and win their league about every year. Coached at Wake and knows what we offer.

The school name on your diploma should not be disqualifying as long as you are all in on making Wake a winner.

I'm so dismal about Wake hoops that I have come to the point that a Dukie would be okay with me, as long as he's 100% a Deacon once he gets here as others are saying. And ultimately it's just another way to beat Duke - snag the next great coach from their coaching tree and make him ours. Because if he's successful, then he probably should have been the one to replace K, and Blue Devil fans will never live that down.

Now if we hire a Dukie and he's terrible, well, that's the worst of all worlds. But then again, not really worse than where we are now.

i'd rather scrap the basketball team than hire a coach from duke

don't slip y'all - duke is still the fucking worst

Let not forget that Turner and Currie overlapped at Wake for roughly 6 years and are the same age.

Turner is an older, more boring version of Wes Miller. His teams play defense, have no offense, and he has ties to Wake Forest without having attended undergrad here.

If a coach wins big here, I don't give a rat's ass where they came from.

Seriously, I don't care if wojo wins 4 NCAA's in a row, he was a tool on the court and I could never stomach him as our coach. Why don't we just interview all the annoying dookies.

How about the guy that broke Justin's jaw, as long as he wins it's apparently ok.

If there was a list of non-tool dookies in the coaching ranks, sure that might be ok, but all we have are kaye's stooges.

I think Amakker was on the radar when we hired DM, I could have lived with him, he was a class guy when at dook.

This talk is literally selling your soul to the devil.

No, it would be literally selling your soul to the devil if you actually sold your soul to the devil. We are discussing the possibility of hiring someone that went to Duke.

Wrong. Hell is empty and all the devils are there

No lie I had a dream last night that we were down 70-5 tonight at halftime and Currie fired Danny at half. Somebody interpret this dream for me, please

You have to wonder if his comment last year during The Dance gives the powers-that-be enough heartburn to disqualify him early on.

It's the inverse of what's to happen. Wake will be losing 5-70 at halftime tonight and DM will get an extension through 2030.

If Turner is so good why is he still at UC-Irvine after all these years. Looks like the PAC-12 would have come calling. He was at Wake twenty years ago.

You point out part of the problem, to me... Certain Dookies who came through K's system are definitely Dookies for life - they will never be anything but a Dookie - even as they are coaching other teams they are just dook through and through - so they will never, ever be 100% Deacon. Wojo is definitely one of those kind of Dookies. Like if Wojo was coaching at Wake and Coach K called him up and said that the Duke family needs him to resign from the job and go on the road recruiting for Duke he would drop everything and get on the road.

Bobby Hurley is likely that kind of Dookie as well, though not as bad as Wojo. Grant Hill is cool and not that kind of Dookie - but he doesn't coach.
It seems like things got worse in Durham as time went on and Coach K's status as cult leader grew. Earlier guys like Dawkins and Amaker aren't as objectionable to me - as compared to Chris Collins, the afore-mentioned Wojo, or (gag) Capel.
