Danny Manning replacement search thread

Another piece of the article that was just brought to my attention is that his “sources” are two other ACC coaches. I’m not sure how you can call those sources. That would rank pretty low on the totem poll even by OGBoards standards.
Yeah. For all we know, those coaches "sources" is Danny Fucking Manning himself.

It’s not positive for Wake but no real new info. Basically just says Manning isn’t negotiating anything, wants full contract amount up front, and if not wants to coach in 20-21. Says he’s heard Wake does not have the capacity to raise enough money to fire him and may have to wait until ACCN payout comes through next year.

I find that incredibly difficult to believe but who knows.

This contradicts RJ’s tier 1 source (?). I don’t know what to think other than let’s just go ahead and take our annual 1st round ACCT loss and get this shit over with.

This. DFL needs to take his 18th loss and then just.... go away.

WAKE WILL not be firing Danny Manning.

Other ACC coaches have called him a “great coach” and praised him so I really don’t think they have an idea of what’s going on in the Wake AD.

It'd be the epitome of LOWF if WF had millions upon millions of dollars to spend on all of these top level infrastructure projects, including massive improvements for basketball, only to not be able or willing to fund the one thing that could actually improve Wake Basketball and put the infrastructure investments to good use. Wake just managed to fundraise a billion dollars on the academic side but reportedly the athletics program cannot raise enough money to rectify a huge problem going on for a decade.

Here is a $10 million pledge for the Sports Performance Center. WF has two guys willing to give $10 million for a building (if other people raise a matching $10 million first). But WF reportedly cannot manage to raise money to cover the even more important problem with Wake Basketball. http://campaign.wfu.edu/lets-roll

This is from several years ago...those buildings exist.

Wow, that's depressing. So it's probably true. It's one thing to grant this doofus of a coach a guaranteed contract, but why would you not insert legal language that allows you to have some leverage in how the money is paid out? Of course if this sad excuse of a Division I program can't even raise the money to buy him out, then I guess all of this is a moot point. Who would allow something so utterly daft and shortsighted in a contract for a damn BB coach. Especially when we stopped caring about winning in 2010? Once again FUCK YOU (MO)RON NOT WELL MAN.

I understand. Just showing that WF has guys willing to throw around millions for buildings but WF is reportedly incapable of raising money for actually fixing a huge problem that has been going on for a decade. If true it is dumb priorities for WF and/or lack of proper effort for the athletics department.

Waiting for the guy with the SOURCES to weigh in. RJ...?

This year seems like there will be fewer big jobs open than normal so it is literally the perfect time for wfu to make a change and we are gonna fuck it up and wait until the year that unc Syracuse and other blue bloods are also looking for coaches

If Currie doesn’t dump Danny after our ACCT loss, then his fan support at Wake quickly spirals down the toilet. The guy has had one singularly important job to do since he was hired. If $$$ is a problem, he should pass the damn hat to all the Grade 1 and 2 sources who kept DM here for so long - he’s certainly become their rotten, smelly albatross.

I'm so confused as to why any single Coach is the answers to all of our problems. Coaches come and go. They also die. We have generally sucked for decades regardless of whom the Coach was with the exception of some normal outlier type luck mainly caused by Tim Duncan falling in our lap.

Don't get me wrong. I want to buy out Manning AND invest in facilities--namely a basketball home. But if faced with choosing one or the other, I would definitely choose the option of infrastructure that will last decades not a quick Coach for our team that is still going to suck through 2025 minimum.

Not sure how I can continue to support WFU hoops if Manning is retained. It shows a lack of respect for the alumni and fanbase. Currie must make this happen. If I did my job like our basketball staff I would have been shit canned 3 years ago.

Manning's contract doesn't contain an acceleration clause in his favor. Wake wouldn't have to pay the full amount up front.
