2019-20 College Basketball Thread

When/if a player tests positive for the coronavirus, then things will shutdown. Got to believe MLB, NHL and NBA are doing everything possible to essentially keep their players in a bubble because this could lead to a catastrophic loss. The Lakers just picked up Dion Waiters. Can you imagine, if he tests positive at the end of March, and the Lakers can't participate in the playoffs....

The Ivy League decision makes no sense. Either it's reasonably safe to play a basketball game against another school or its not.

MLB should have little to worry about. Little contact between players. It’s outside.

University of Dayton closes campus

All University-sponsored on-campus events and gatherings are canceled effective March 11 until further notice. We are in communication with the NCAA and other athletic orgs sponsoring events on campus, but have no information at this time to share about upcoming events.

They are in contact with NCAA because of the First Four. If in UD’s estimation it is prudent to have no public events, one wonders about hosting basketball doubleheaders with thousands of fans.

March Madness could be especially maddening this year
I would not bet against some games being played without fans or some host sites pulling out altogether.

It would be eerie for the players to play in empty big arenas. The teams in the tournaments are used to playing in front of crowds.

I'm starting to think that the NCAA tournament might be canceled (maybe not initially, but at some point).

If/when any player/coach/trainer in the tournament tests positive, would guess that the tournament will be done.

The NCAA Tourney would only be canceled in a year where Wake Forest is a top seed and has a manageable road to the Final Four.

Exactly. This year is the *uNC cinderella tournament. Last to auto bid in ACC Tournament. Then to final four from 11 seed.

Actually, I look at the tourney in the inverse.

There are lots of WF's in college basketball, and if "non-elite" schools are on the verge of winning the tourney, then it becomes more likely the tourney is canceled. So, if in 16 days, the final 4 is Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Michigan State. The NCAA will find a way to play the games. If its Dayton, SD State, Creighton and FSU, the NCAA will determine that the public health concerns dictate that the remainder of the tourney gets canceled.

WF playing 4-D chess while the rest of the league plays checkers

Virus is a huge risk for senior citizens. Roy, K, Boeheim all exposing themselves to huge crowds of people expectorating all over the place

Meanwhile WF is home all snug in their beds

The only one smarter is Pastner who had the foresight to cheat 3 years ago knowing this outbreak would endanger his oldest, most vulnerable fans.

You must spread reputation...

lol this is great.

Leonard Hamilton doesn't get infected by coronavirus... Coronavirus gets infected by Leonard Hamilton.

Larranaga is screwed, though.

The CBI is cancelled due to coronavirus.

I thought Leonard just glared at the coronavirus, and it shriveled up and died.

Move the games to The Joel. It has gone largely unpopulated this year so the risk of lingering viruses is small.

DFL watching the pitt-state game and how defense matters?? :dumb:

Nice move by Capel going to zone and getting pitt back in the game down 3 at halftime.

The Ivy League now says it will let its member institutions decide whether to participate in NCAA championships for basketball and other winter sports

Ivy League cancels all spring sports - our grad transfer baseball player from Cornell made a wise decision
