Vienna is in the far east of the country, near the border with Slovakia and nearly due south of Warsaw. I joke regularly that I'm not sure if it's the last Western European city or the first Eastern European city.

We have a fairly low per 100,000 person count for now here in the city. I doubt that will stay for long.

No really when “recovered” is an arbitrary time point. The recovered rate for them probably mostly represents those that were hospitalized and discharged.

A few notes -

1 - In Rhode Island the police are already enforcing a mandatory 14 day quarantine for anyone who has been in New York within the past 14 days. In some coastal towns they are looking for cars with New York plates. This was put in place by the Governor of the state.

2 - South Carolina has a similar rule. Violate it and you get a 1,000 fine and a 6 month jail sentence.

3 - Florida's Governor put a similar measure in place already too. And counties around Tampa went on lockdown in part because of the people arriving from New York.

Other states have implemented similar rules as well per the NYT.

Get used to it. Borders in Europe have been getting sealed and tightened for weeks both internationally and domestically. We are in for a really harsh several months.

Sure. But you don’t think it’s a little weird for the president to float an idea (not actually do it) and his reason is limited to one specific state?

He should be making policy based on what’s best for everyone. Also, if the federal government is going to restrict travel (it does cross a line), it should have been done weeks ago. New Yorkers have already been leaving.

OK. And more will continue to leave if something is not done to restrict travel. What should be happening at both the State and the Federal level are massive travel restrictions. States have only started these quarantine measures a few days ago. But if they are not monitoring the roads and airports for travelers from "hot spots" it is pointless. You could literally seal off 85% plus of all auto traffic into my state with about 40 cop cars - 2 per main roads. It has not been done. Florida wouldn't be that much different.
 
Another decent update from Italy. New cases day over day were very slightly up (not good). But the increase in total new cases is now down to below 7%. Another milestone. We need to start seeing that day over day new case number start dropping though instead of being more or less level.

Yeah. They could block off alligator alley and cut off much of the travel between Miami and the SW coast.
But again, if the states and federal were going to do this and exercise this massive power, it’s too late.
