E.g I seem civ, 3 mafia I civ lean I can probably protect, including Thanos who was trying to compile the stones. Anyway - enough about that, but I thought it was worth clarifying. I do, by the way, genuinely try to be helpful and explain things to the greatest extent I’m able. But my style in the middle of a round is reading specific posts and deriving leans. I don’t generally then follow up with a paragraph about why Gouda is a civ until it’s relevant or if that person is getting heat.

But as an example: Gouda, a) makes declarative statement about mako p1 that he doesn’t likely make about mako if mako is civ or his teammate, b) his follow up on p2 is genuine even if it’s jokey, c) he wouldn’t post that at me if he was mafia and I am civ (which I am) on p.3, d) his dialogues with Romanov, and then e) saying he didn’t remember why he voted for Ph.

^^^ all of that is civ coming from Gouda. Again, some is specific to a player, some is generic.

For Da, who I used to have a hard time reading when I was playing, I like post 391 because I agree with it and (what I assume Da’s sentiment is there), I also like post 454. I thought his tone with his other posts was fine except one which I don’t recall without looking back through.

Earnestness is a civ trait. Trying to figure things out is a civ trait. You know what you’re doing as mafia. Trick as a civ is figuring out who is actually trying to figure shit out versus who is pretending to figure shit out. It’s why fake claims out more mafia teammates than anything because mafia knows their teammate is lying and are usually shit about pretending to deduce the veracity of a claim.

Also, this is the post I liked about tic. Generally people being aggrieved others aren’t reading them as civs is a civ quality because it’s sincere. Mafia usually isn’t going to be pissed off people aren’t reading them as a civ. *

This is asterisked by possibility tic is romanov’s teammate and this is banter.

it's tough to get started in mafia because you're going up against one level of trying to figure out the game, another trying to figure out the meta which includes your own tone, and another trying to act like you aren't doing either of the first two levels. and god forbid you go against a norm.

I wasn’t active in chat - today has been slow whereas last week was crazy. I apologize. But if I was a civ in that game ryala and Romanov would have been cleared thinking my claim was right. Usually people who believe a fake claim get heat when it should be the opposite. Mafia rarely believes fake claims because they know they’re fake. Civs do more often. When player X believes player Y and player Y was lying it means player X is a civ 90% of the time. Mafia is too worried about covering themselves and / or aren’t good enough pretending to believe their lying teammate. What civs should do then is tend to civ lean the people who believed the claim. This is obviously a generic tell and not a specific tell. I didn’t like revealing stuff like this when we played every week because then it’s a burned tell and I would have to evolve quicker than the meta evolved. I say something like this in a thread, so then mafia adjusts and starts believing claims, and then I’d have to adjust ahead of that adjustment. Etc. etc.

OK - enough meta commentary from me. That’s just a general rundown of shit and why I sometimes only post a sentence about someone’s alignment in my head. And again I have no clue if I’m any good at being a civ anymore anyway. Gonna find out!

I think Ryala's theory is the "correct" one, but I always operate under the assumption that the Ph softclaim will work itself out. If he's a civ special, he should be targeted by mafia (maybe not immediately due to protection and whatnot), but either he is or he's maf, and I think you table him because eventually he should be killed. Also, if he has to concoct a story to go along with his claim if he's mafia, let him dickstep all over himself.

Kill all soft claimers is a game meta more than a specific commentary on any one soft claim. We should not encourage vague "I am important, plz don't kill" moves. They're -EV for civs, and frankly less fun to play with

duff is a solid but under the radar player. He gets more aggressive as the game goes on. He reads civ to me here.

This is the other Jman post where he "maf leans" someone with his vote on someone else.

Then you have Jman claiming Goon is civ and Goon claming Jman is maf = if Jman is maf, gooner is likely civ, and Gouda looks good as well.

Jman has done this twice this game, claiming he has maf leans on people, but voting for someone else.

So between all of this and his interactions with Duff this round, I think if Jman is mafia, then Gooner and Duff are likely civ.

100% agree but also believe 1 to 2 rounds will flush that out one way or the other.
