Look for civs, not mafs. Narrow the pool. You aren’t shit, you’re actually a very innocuous novice, and you could be a lot worse.

Everyone wants to be a hero and nail all their maf reads. It's waaaaaaaaaay easier to clear civs than it is to catch maf. You can be a very very good mafia player without ever getting good at figuring out maf tells.
 
20 players. 16 civ, 4 mafia. Blind dart throw gives you a 1/5 chance of nabbing mafia. You clear 4 civs and it becomes 1/4. You get a lot better finding mafia just by numbers if you find civs first. It also can inform your own votes if someone has 3 votes and all 3 people voting for that player are in your cleared civ column in your head.

The hard part about clearing civs is that's what mafia does best, since they know the answers.

Gooner's skin is crawling with this breakdown. those 16 better all be vanilla and maf has to have some serious powers.
