New coaching search thread

ETSU fans don't understand why Forbes would take a job. They keep calling it a "step down other than salary".

Wellman, [Redacted], and Manning have done a lot of damage to our program.
ETSU fans are yokels.
I mean, they ARE.

Hope we get as good of of presser as this tomorrow. Skip to 16 mins, this guy is great. https://youtu.be/D9suX3XRYKI

I like it. He's not a "Wake guy." He's not even a Winston-Salem guy. He's a like a Kernersville guy. He's going to get people to come out to Wake games who could give a shit about Wake. Put some entertaining quality basketball on the court and people will come.

I know very little about Forbes. If he is the pick. His background does not seem very Wake Forest. Never coached at a private university. Let alone a quality university with high academic standards. Most of the places he has coached enroll any student that graduates HS. His pedigree seems to be attached to coaches with questionable character. He does not seem to be an intellect. He seems to be a ball coach. His demeanor reminds me of the BC football coach that just got fired. He definitely does not come across as a Clawson. I could see why Currie may favor him... He knows him and his loyalty will be to him. Wes Miller’s family connections are above Currie, Thad and Beilein require big money (big risk to Currie if they fail), Kelsey to intermingled to Wellman’s legacy, and any Duke coach is a Dukie. The save play may be Forbes, but he seems to be a round peg that will not fit into a square university.

I would prefer Beilein or Matta. High character and proven winners.

Good.

And guess what? If he isn't a good fit, he'll get a job elsewhere and Currie can hire Patrick Stuffington III to be the next coach.

He’s more like Geoff Collins than Clawson, but Collins is my 2nd favorite coach in the ACC, so I’m totally fine with it.

Also, to comments about him being 55 but not being a high-major coach yet -- that just shows he's worked his way up the old-fashioned way and didn't scoot by at any point on any BS "merits." Dude's the real deal

I seen is job accepting presser at ETSU months ago and immediately liked the guy. Loved him saying “I don’t recruit McDonalds All Americans I recruit Burger King all Americans to whip their ass” lol. Lots of personality the b-ball program desperately needs.

I'd take Miller over Forbes. Forbes has relied on lots of Jucos. Cannot replicate that at Wake Forest.

Does anyone have an issue with the potential first major hire of Currie’s tenure being the son of a major donor? It seems like something that could get messy and most schools would want to avoid.

Rivals talks about Forbes reliance on Juco’s and academic exceptions at ETSU. The guy is rough around the edges, much more than Staak was. And 55 is too old. Big disappointment that we didn’t get Miller or Kelsey. Matta was out because of his health.

Forbes has been our best option all week.

Winners win.

Dude just went to Northwest Freakin Florida for 2 years...random...and of course took them to back to back national title games and went 62-6.

ETSU was about to make a run in the tournament, thus putting Forbes out of our reach. We’d be lucky to snag him.

Forbes. Forbes. Forbes.

1) He was an assistant in the Big 12, SEC, and AAC. He knows how to recruit HS players, that just isn't the best recipe for success somewhere like ETSU. Although, let's be clear, the majority of his roster came into ETSU as freshmen, including his 2nd and 3rd best players.
2) What do you mean he's rough around the edges? Seems like a nice family man who is a strong, albeit slightly colorful, communicator.
3) 55 is not too old. He can coach here for longer than anyone has ever coached at Wake Forest since we've been in the ACC and still be 4 years younger than Coach K is now.
4) We didn't get Miller or Kelsey because Currie thought Forbes was better. We probably got our number 2 choice here - which makes this a much more successful coaching search than the last two.

If he is the guy, people will absolutely love Forbes because he is so not an intellectual snot like Amaker. Hatch would probably love your position.

Clawson is so rare, stop trying to find the hoops version of him.
